Looking into purchasing an S500 with Maya 20's
 

One of the wheels has a scruffed lip, the area in question is roughly 2.5 inches long. If I was to go ahead and purchase this vehicle, is there any way I can get the wheel looking brand new again?

Yes, you can have curb rash etc.repaired on wheel. If you are in socal I can refer you.

Also, guys how does the S500 ride with 20's (with the Mayas, for example)?

Is there a noticeable increase in road noise? Does the vehicle ride rougher (not as smooth)? Am I going to have to be extremely careful about going over speedbumps and whatnot? I've never had a vehicle with large aftermarket wheels before (although I had 19's on a midsize SUV).

As much as I would like to keep the Mayas on the vehicle, my main reason for getting the vehicle is because I need something that is quiet.

I am hoping that the ride won't be any noiser then it normally is with the aftermarket wheels, otherwise I will have to take them off :(

I hope the S class soundproofing is good..

You're probably gonna be riding on 25 series sidewall. Whether it be 265,275,or even 285, 25s are pretty damn thin. I'm on 265/30 rears and I have to swerve or travel over potholes at a snail's pace.

How is the ride quality though? Does the vehicle feel more bumpy then stock?

How is the road noise? Is it any noisier in the cabin at highway speeds compared to when with stock wheels/tires?

Definitely bumpier. Still smooth with sport airmatic off. With it on, its a bit too bumpy and my interior starts rattling a tad here and there. Keep in mind I'm also lowered, so my S-class rides like a sports car.

Road noise depends on type of tires. In my case, it increased a bit, but barely noticeable.

I'm starting to wounder if I should keep the Mayas or not...I will be doing some long road trips with the vehicle. The last thing I want is a car that is difficult to drive and has rattles :(

Wrong, If you are running 20's on an S class you will have a 30 rear's and 35 fronts. The same goes for 19's and you can also run a "fat" setup (19's) which has 35 rear's and 40 front's. I have ran all of these setups and they are all pretty good but the 19's are the best possible setup as far as performance and handling, with 20's you lose performance but you get a certain look, either is fine but you have to chose what is important to you.. If you like the look of 20's then go for it, but make sure you lower your car if going with 19' or 20's to avoid the chuck wagon look. :eek:

I'm running small, 35 fronts and 30 rears on 19s. Then again, everything is flexible if you don't care much for matching the stock rolling diameter. 19s with 40 rears and 45 fronts may even fit.

if your looking for comfort and quietness go with the stock 16's they have the most comfort and are the quietest

i went from original stock 16's to the amg 18's and now have 20's. Everyone is right, you do lose the softness of the ride going to 20's, but to me its not bad. I do swerve around pot holes though, and one time i hit one, it sounded like i broke something. But if there is ever a car that can ride on 20's its the w220. My previous car a GS400 could go no bigger than 19's due to the harshness of the ride.
