'05 S500 how do I enable mobile phone & ipod?
Pardon me... I'm sure this question have been answered in the past... but
I'm new to the MB family, didn't even know that S500 and W220 were synonyms. And that leads to the confusion I have. Thus the question is specific to the S500 and the model year 2005.
Can the COMAND system for that year be able to support my Sprint wireless phone via bluetooth, and also the iPod? Or do I have to buy a new wireless subscription from MB authorized partner?
Thx.

You can get the Bluetooth module, which works with a wide variety of phones and most providers. Information is at
http://www.wireless4mb.com/page8/page8.html
However, your car must be wired with the MHI (multi-handset interface) before this module can be used. If your car hasn't been "prewired" this will set you back around $1,500 at the dealer. That will give you the privilege of buying the Bluetooth puck from the above site for like another $350.
The dealer can also install an ipod kit, but it's not cheap either.

Whoover, I don't believe MB can install the MB iPod kit in the '05 W220, because it is one of the models that lacks an AUX jack and any "buried" or hidden taps for one (if you know I'm wrong, please tell me where an AUX can be added). The MB kit requires an AUX input to the head unit or COMAND.
I went through this some time ago; decided to install a Dension Gateway 500 iPod kit. https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics/194660-gateway-500-most-o-good-unit-poor-documentation.html and https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...51#post2471051
You are exactly right about the cell phone. The AWS site should be checked for Sprint firmware compatibility - some works, some has been problematic. More info on compatibility issues, etc. at https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...77#post2788377, but if a handsfree system is already installed, checking the AWS site as you suggested can answer the necessary questions without reading all of that.

04 thru 06 W220 did not have any factory IPOD options.. BUt they did come with DVD Mp3 capability that works pretty much like a 4gb IPOD if you know how to do it. I have been pretty successful with this so far after many many wasted Dvd's. But now I have it down to a fine art.
The Best IPOD alternative by far is the GW500 for MOST. SKylaw has been using this system for a whole now so I'm sure he can fill you in on all of the details about that system along with a great install guide that was posted.
