Command Cd's

Who has copies of Command Cd's 3,4,6,7,8,9, & 10? I would like to complete my set. S-class 00-02. How much would dealer charge?

Crankin Feb 6, 2003 09:23 PM

CD cost

My local MB dealer wants $145 for single, $285 for whole set. MBUSA might send you one for free if you ask.

I asked night before last - model year 2000 MBs with COMAND are eligible for one free update.

My 2002 C32 was not eligible - I have to use real money :(

apricotscrub Feb 7, 2003 02:22 PM

upgrade??
So the Cd that comes with the 2000 S-class is old? there is a newer one out?? WHERE??

Crankin Feb 7, 2003 02:32 PM

COMAND

js, your COMAND system is better than the 2000 ones anyway. I would rather be in your position and pay for an upgrade.
At least your system doesn't take 5 hrs to learn how to use! :)

A new revision of the MAP CD is released every 12 months. The newest one to date is 07/02 release. There also are new COMAND firmware updates that only Mercedes service can apply.

I have the latest copy of disc 7, I will trade with others for their copy(copies). The discs are CD based and can be easily copied on a CD burner. I have checked and they run fine.

Crankin Feb 8, 2003 12:26 AM

Scrub, call MBUSA

With your 2000 MY, they will send you an updated disc free. For these cars, I think the latest update is 7-01, not 7-02. Maybe the later models have the newer 7-02 updates.

Crankin Feb 8, 2003 12:28 AM

FazTaz, where is disc 7?

How do you e mail the copy or file? I will have new disc 9 (southeast US in 4 weeks.
Thanks

Hi Adam,

I brought my S500 2000 to the local dealer in SoCAL and asked for the COMAND firmware update. They don't know what I am talking about. They thought it was the COMAND CD Map update.

Most have no clue about the actual service COMAND update CD sent to the service dept's. Speak to the shop foreman. By the way, this is not a warranty item. So you prob. would have to pay for the service charge on this one, UNLESS, you are expirencing problems that they update would fix. What fixes are in the latest update ? I don't know. I know the 2001 (Released 7/30/02) update fixed some problems with voice activation and CD changer starting at disc 1 every startup.

Tell service to follow these steps:

To Falsh COMAND Software:

1. Turn ignition off and remove key.
2. Turn on the COMAND unit by pressing PWR button.
3. Eject navigation CD-ROM (if installed).
4. Turn off the COMAND unit by pressing the PWR key.
5. Wait a minimum of 15 seconds.
6. Press and hold both the “*” and “#” keys. While continuing to hold the keys down, turn on
COMAND by pressing the PWR button.
7. Insert update CD-ROM. “Service Download from CD” menu appears.
Note: Dates of current and new software will appear. The “new” software date should be more current
than the one being replaced. If not, abort the process by selecting CANCEL. If CD-ROM ejects itself and the
CD’s date of software is newer, reinsert CD-ROM and continue procedure. Do not leave the service CD in the
customers car.
8. Using the cursor knob, select START HEAD UNIT (should be selected by default) and then
depress the knob to begin the download process.

Best Way to exchange Comand CDs

Someone asked the best way to exchange Comand CDs and I wanted to offer a couple of suggestions...

The easiest way is probably just to copy them with CD burner and send them in the mail. They are durable and don't need much protection - all it costs is a 37c stamp.

The alternate way is to use the internet to send an "iso" image of the CD, but the size is really too large to email (~450MB) so you'd have to find somwhere to deposit the images (like an ftp site, or a web page). You can create an iso image of the using most CD burner programs such as Easy CD creator or Nero.
