steering rack

My power steering rack is leaking and I intend to have it replaced but need to know which is the correct fluid I should be using and how much is needed. Is there a difference between airmatic and ABC cars?

Thanks in advance.

so after doing some researching, it looks like my car uses the regular MB fluid not the pentosin.

my next question would be if replacing the rack, will i need to flush the entire system? if so how much fluid is needed?

so i had my steering rack replaced and it is no longer leaking, but now my steering is really heavy when i come to a near stop making it difficult to park. any ideas what might be causing this? i'll be taking the car back to the shop to see what the deal is but wanted to do a lil homework before taking her in.

the power steering was fine prior to the rack replacement. could it be possible that there may be air in the system?

does it make any whining noises, or do you hear any popping noises when turning the wheel all the way, could be ball joints, or like you stated air in the systems see if a flush will work if not its the pump, also check your belts and reservoir to see if its full

no clicking, popping or whining before or after rack replacement and the reservoir is full.

i'm hoping it's not the pump but when searching for pumps online, is there really a $600 price difference in pumps for abc and non-abc cars?

cars with ABC use the power steering pump to pump the hydrolic fluid in to suspension, so a pump on a non ABC doesn't obviously

S 500
Hi guys I have a S500 2005 and my steering has been making creaking noises whenever i turn on my AC as if the power steering has gone bad however i had that replace last month so i dont think thats the case Also the steering is alot heavier than before. any idea what this could be? when the AC is off then everything is smooth.. thanks
Im at 99,000 miles if that helps and i can hear a lose knocking sound on the left wheel side im guessing that could be the thrust arm... just some info in case it would help..
