transmission dipstick s430??
i have a 2000 s430 , from what i read in these forums there is no transmission dipstick, just a "cap" that can be replaced with a dipstick, which is a "workshop tool" for checking fluid level.
Is that correct? And if so, where can i purchase the dipstick at the best price? Ebay only has one for a 2003-2006 s430.
and where in the engine compartment is the "cap" i need to remove to replace with the new dipsitick?
Thanks in advance

The cap sits on the engine at all times. It can be removed to use the dipstick, but you will have to replace it with a new cap. The dipstick is a workshop tool and can be purchased online. I'd do a google search. The 03-06 had the exact same engine to my knowledge, but the 7 speed tranny went in in 2004 so I'm not sure if it uses the same dipstick. The dipstick tube can be found by the passenger rear area of the engine compartment, almost under the air-box assembly.

The big listing that shows 2003 thru 2006 S430 is wrong. I don't know where he expects it to go if there is no tube. maybe just a general compatibility hart but it's incorrect. This may be the correct tool for you.

thanks, i just bought it at autoanything.com , free shipping and at least if it doesnt fit my model i can return it.
Is there anywhere that has trans fluid checking instructions, like how to remove the cap, etc? Are we supposed to check it while the car is running like on most other cars? I know the instructions say dont leave the dipstick in there.... so im wondering if you arent supposed to check it when the car is running.

very simple.
Removing cap: Locate cap with plastic tab. Pry up on plastic tab until it breaks. Use screwdriver to push lower part of tab through the bottom of the cap (into your hand). Now the cap can just pull off.
The fluid level is checked when the vehicle is running. The reason they say not to leave it in there is because the dipstick is about 12" longer than the tube so it flops around. It is a measuring tool only.
Make sure you get your hot and cold temps pretty close to the 20c and 80c that are listed on the dipstick.

How did you find it for $17?
I searched ebay and the $17 ones are the engine oil dipstick , not the transmission dipstick . Those are $30++
What is the eBay item number
