Vacumn or Pump Noise After Shut Off
After shutting off the car today I noticed a pump or vacumn noise still running for much longer than normal. After 5 minutes I disconnected the battery. When I re-connected the battery the noise immdeiately started up again.
What am I looking at dealership vs. indy shop, cost wi$e?

Update- Indy shop says they can use a Bosch air injection pump vs. OE part (probably made by Bosch) for $650 w/ relay switch.
Dealer cost $1200 vs. Indy Shop $650
Cost aside, is this something better suited for a dealership repair?

Mine wasn't a question on it's own.
My question was based on the conversation on this thread and it did sound like they were talking about the airmatic compressor being bad and referred to as something else.

yeah i dont even think its possible for the air injection pump to run when engine is off...
but the airmatic pump does indeed run when its relay fails, very common problem so I assume all he needs is just the relay

Update: I had the air injection pump and relay replaced. The pump staying on caused it to start to burn (internally) and I could smell it.
Had I been able to replace just the relay on my own, I probably could have saved $1150.
Patience is a virtue. The problem occurred Sunday, dealer drop-off Monday, fixed Tues AM.
I couldn't wait to drive it again!

mbztlc9 keeps saying it is the air injection pump and others say air suspension compressor and relay. Secondary pump should not cost $1200 to replace.

OEM Secondary Air Injection Pump = $750 (part only)
Plus the relay switch was about $40.
The Indy shop quoted me $450 for a Bosch Secondary Air Injection Pump (part only). Complete job w/ Indy shop would have been about $650.
I know I paid about $500+ more through the dealership vs. Indy shop.
The car was already at the dealer and the pump was starting to burn out (I could smell it burning).
This is the price we way to drive $80K - $100K luxury cars

As said above, first thing to do is to replace the relay that controls the pump. It seems very unlikely that a problem with the pump can cause it to keep running...

" I had the same problem yesterday " It's the :secondary air injection pump relay switch or pump. It almost sounds like a jet taking off while it's running, You can unplug the ground wire from the pump until You have it repaired, it's an emission control deal. Be sure to tape the ground wire up while it's unplugged to avoid any arks from it.

That should have cost less than $20 and taken less than five minutes if done DIY.
At the dealer should have perhaps cost around $100. Either there was more than the relay involved, or your dealer was greedier than usual.
