2000 S-Class; COMMAND installation.
Hi all!
I need a little help. I am the proud owner of a 2000 manufactured (2005 reg) Mercedes-Benz S320 LWB from the UK (but registered here in Malaysia). My problem is that this car never came with the COMMAND system. I've had the pleasure of using the COMMAND system in a 2004 manufactured S-Class, and I am green with envy!
I have managed to track down COMMAND systems being sold from the States going for around $780 thereabouts. Before I plonk down that money for it, I was wondering IF the COMMAND system is compatible with my car at all! I have only ever seen the COMMAND system in post-facelift W220s and it would be a real shame if I were to pay that money & not be able to have it installed in my beloved Mercedes-Benz.
Can you wonderful people please let me know if its possible to give my car an upgrade with the COMMAND system? Thank you!

You can install a D2B based COMAND (one with navigation system in the head unit or a widescreen COMAND MOPF. The best source of information, including part numbers, is at http://www.mercupgrades.com/ If you install the COMAND MOPF you will also need to install an Audio Gateway; that is not necessary with the oldr COMAND units, because the AGW is built in to them.
You cannot use a MOST-based (DVD nav) COMAND unit from an '04 or later model.
Be careful buying through ebay; there are usually no refunds for used electronics, and many older COMAND units that are available there have problems.
