OMG Engine Noise after shut down. Burning smell! Will is blow up?
In a very distressed state.
My engine keeps on making noise even after the engine is shut down. Sounds a bit like a diesel engine. Didnt pay too much attention, but it keeps on making that noise for 30 mintues.... and started smelling like something is burning.
No dealer is open now. I just want to make sure it wont blow up or something.
I hope the engine is ok. I only got it 3 months ago has only 135,000km on the clock =(

that wasnt your engine, that was your airmatic pump compressor burning out.....A very common problem. If you read this forum before today, you can see all the threads talking about it. The relay goes bad and causes the pump to run until it dies.
So if you smelled burning, yes the airmatic compressor is probably dead now and has burned up.
You will need a new airmatic pump, and you also need a new relay which is the cause of the pump running after the car was off.
The pump costs about $300 if you buy from Arnott, much more expensive at MB dealer

The relay is about $14 here, much more expensive at MB dealer.

If your car hasnt dropped too low to drive, take it immediately to the mechanic before it drops and becomes undrivable. Once it drops , not only is it undrivable but tow trucks will often cause damage because the car will be so low.

Thanks Tusabes!
I am leaving the country tomrrow night, so i will take you awesome advice to take it to the mechanics. It is 10pm in Sydney now. So will have to wait overnight.
From your experience, just wondering how likely that it will drop to undrivable DURING my trip to MB?
Cheers! and Thanks Heaps!

I would recommend you take it there NOW if possible....just leave it outside the repair shop if you can.
if it doesnt drop instantly when you start the car, it should be OK...but it may drop overnight. I dont want you to wake up to a car that is so low, it cant even get out of the driveway without damage!
At the very least, place it on the street next to your house where a flatbed tow truck can get it easily... if it drops and is in the driveway, it may drop too low to exit the driveway without damaging the underside.

If its the pump, then pull the Fuse, that way your pump wont die.

Thanks Guys.
Got towed to MB today, they pretty much need to change everything. Cost $3,500 AUD. We just dont have Coil suspension or after market parts as readily available in Australia.
I hope they put in improved components instead of the original W220 components which will suffer the same fate. Will pick up Monday.
Thanks everyone, esp Tusabes for his valuable advices.
Cheers

Unless all that is being covered under warranty, you should NOT get the repair done there!
$3500 AUD is a total ripoff. any local mechanic can easily change the compressor and relay for under $300 labor. Even if you had to buy the parts in the USA and have them shipped, parts cost should be under $400-500.
MB parts from a dealer are ridiculously overpriced. You can buy the parts I listed and have them shipped to AUS.
