Hi I was cruising on the highway this morning when all of the sudden the check engine light started blinking and when I press on the gas pedal I could feel it rumbling . Pulled over turned the car off restarted it and went on my way with no problem but my check engine light is still there and it will go away but not without restarting the car 5 times . Is this something serious and going to cost big money . This car has been a nightmare for me the last 2 years. If anyone can tell me what is wrong and what to expect the mechanic or dealer to say and how much this will cost . I highly appreciate it

When your check engine light blinks that means you are damaging your catalytic converters. Always pull over and avoid driving on a blinking check engine. Most likely your vehicle is misfiring . Could be faulty spark plug , plug wire , or coil etc... best thing to do is get the vehicle scanned ASAP and fix the problem. Lot cheaper than new catalytic converters . Goodluck

You must get the DTC (diagnostic trouble code) to begin to solve your problem. Don't panic yet. It really could be something simple but you need to know what code is setting. Could be several codes. No one can help until you pinpoint the cause ie DTC, they can only guess.

It is impossible to guess without more information. There are literally dozens of possible causes for your situation.
If the problem concerns emissions - which is virtually all problems that turn on the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light or check engine light) - a standard code reader will give you the trouble code. This means that (in the USA) you can take the car to Autozone, Advance or most large auto parts stores, and they will pull the codes for free. Be ready to write down the exact code, so you can tell us what it is (or they are).
