Car wont start, jumping doesn't help
My 2006 s350 won't start. The engine won't even attempt to turn over. It's not a dead battery because everything else turns on fine. Just to be sure I tried jumping it but it still wouldn't try to turn over. Dont see any error codes either. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

One more thing. I hear a very, very faint series of clicking or groaning when I turn the key in the ignition, but it's not the same sound as if the engine were trying to turn over. It's so quiet at first I didn't think there was anything happening at all. Based on reading some past threads, I guess that means it's either the starter motor or CPS, not the starter solenoid? I don't think it's an issue with battery terminal connections.
EDIT: Sounds like from previous posts that if it were the CPS, the engine would at least try to turn over. I guess this means it's either the starter motor or the EIS?

Some possibilities - On-site investigation is the only way to know what the problem is...
- Battery is not providing sufficient power.
- Battery cable connections blocking battery power.
- Starter is not being commanded to start because:
- Neutral safety switch on shifter is not functional.
- Start relay not functional
- Poor connection in circuit.
- Starter is faulty, possibly because of worn or stuck brushes.
While there are other possible causes, all of these should be checked. You are not at all likely to get a magic answer from us.
Some rational trouble-shooting will help. For example, using a Voltmeter, multimeter or test light will tell you whether or not the main starter terminal has battery power.

It could possibly be the fuse under the passenger footwell. I think it is 150 amp and is bolted in. It has to be replaced from both the top and bottom side while swearing at the CAT. I lost one and the part was over $100. Put a meter across it to see if it is open. It gives new meaning to the words "remove the negative battery cable when working"

"everything else works" is not a sign of a good battery. A failing/failed battery will provide enough voltage to make everything else work.
The clicking sound when you try to crank is a classic dead battery symptom. You're saying that the engine won't crank (starter will not engage and turn engine). That's not a CPS, the CPS failure would be: engine cranks (starter moves engine) but doesn't start.
While the other possibilities, fuse, relay, safety switch, are all valid for a no crank condition, you've got the signs of a dead battery. I would begin with the simple: Test, and likely replace, the battery.

Thanks for the replies. Ended up having it towed to a dealership. They say it is a failed gear shifter and costs 1200. Is this possible? I couldn't shift into neutral with the engine off, to allow pushing the car out of the garage. Not sure if one should be able to do that normally, though.

Yes, shifter is a part of start authorization, if they confirm to you it's the one which causes the problem,
take the car-out from them & get a good used one, put it & coded,
($1200) is tooooo much...
