See...I'd actually like to do the opposite and upgrade my Bose system to a more modern, more powerful system. But I've heard it's a bear to get into those Bose systems.

The schematic for the original audio system is attached along with a legend.

The sound system is fiber optic and will be a very big task to put back to original. I would consider leaving it as is unless it is no working correctly , someone paid a lot to up grade the system.

Wiring and Fiberoptics
The wiring and fiberoptics are not that difficult to replace but it is a lot of work. I have the same problem on my W220. Some idiot cut the wiring harness and the fiberoptic cables in the boot. I have checked with my Mercedes main dealer and the full harness from the Bose Amp to the Command is available and cost around £350 or about $560. Most of the harness is under the floor so the seats have to come out. I managed to find a complete fiberoptic harness on eBay for about £100 ($160 ish). Once you have the harness it is a matter of being methodical. Free off the harness but don't disconnect anything lay the new harness alongside the old and make the connections as you disconnect. Do the same for the fiberoptic system. Remember that the Command system will need to have a STAR visit to get the Bose amp recognised by the system. Mercedes main dealer recommended that I find the harness identification number for the harness fitted to my car and they would order in the harness from that number, same for the fiberoptic harness. The fiberoptic harness from Mercedes is about £121 ($195 ish) so buying new is not much different to buying from eBay! The Bose system is by far the best system for the car because it was designed and tuned to the cabin acoustics for the W220. Yes it may not be as powerful as a more modern system but the sound quality is superb.

Reason I ask is because my fan radio stays on at all times even with the key removed. Radio also can be powered on if the power button is pressed. I think the radio fan may be the culprit to why my battery dies every day. Can any of yalls radios be powered ON with the key off? Wonder if it is the radio itself or a wiring issue.

I get now sound from the speakers when the car is cold... I don't have an explanation for this, on the head unit everything appears to work as it should, although sometimes the mute icon won't appear when pressed. I'm thinking bad caps, but maybe it's as simple as a bad fiber optic connection to the amplifier?
