DEAD PIXELS ON NAVIGATION 2004 S500 W220
Hey guys, So i just noticed that I have some dead or grey pixels on my unit. Interesting thing is that the grey mark appears to be transparent and you see behind the grey so It may not be dead pixels.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Besides replacing the unit is there a fix? Can I just purchase the LCD?
Thanks guys!

It might be a good idea to run a DVD head cleaner through the unit. While the shape seems similar, from the pictures the size seems different. The problem is likely in the DVD or the head or the screen. If it's one of the last 2 items replacing the unit may be the only alternative.

Those pixels are stuck. Could be one of two causes. One is the driver for the column and row that those points failed. Or the pixels failed themselves, perhaps from an impact with the screen? You can try flashing the screen with the display button, making it white and black. If that doesn't work, you will need a new screen.

Try going over the screen with a hairdryer. Just make sure you don't overheat the screen. Otherwise just get a replacement since massaging it didn't work.

You can take the command unit out and make sure all of the ribbon cables which control the pixels are seated properly. I had a similar problem on an LCD computer screen and since it was failing anyway I decided to dismantle the thing. To my surprise after re-seating of the ribbon cables it came back to life.

Command Unit Screen Replacement
For those of you that have dead pixels i found the tap method not to work. I bought a new "Mercedes-benz Comand APS NTG1 Navigation Headunit LCD Display Screen" on eBay from http://www.ebay.com/usr/xcar-parts for $150. it shipped from China. It was a perfect fit for my 2004 S55 AMG. Replacement was not difficult. XCAR does not always have the screens. just keep checking eBay.
