W220 rear ride height...

Hi,
After a few minutes after parking and locking my 2002 W220, the rear suspension lifts about 2". When i open the car with the remote, it drops the 2" and levels againto drive - anybody any ideas as to why this is? :nix:

Mine does this too, Idk why. What I do is hit the trunk to make it drop lower so that its even. I hate when I come home from along day and see that its up high as hell LOL.

LMAO seriously?! Hit the trunk with what a belt? Shes just standing to your attention, happy to see you. Dont beat her behind!

/s idk why this happens, sounds annoying.

On AirMatic 220s the rear is adjustable. There is an inch long slider that is bolted together by a 10mm bolt and nut.

If you want to lower the rear it is located above the rear diff, you will have to spray some nut blaster and let it sit ffor a few minutes, then take a 10mm wrench and a 10mm ratchet and loosen the nut and bolt slowly.

DONT REMOVE the nut and bolt, just loosen it to the point where you can slightly adjust the slider. Squeeze it inward about 4 clicks and the rear will lower about .5" and stay that way. Then tighten ot up and enjoy.

For those of you that are curious, if you adjust the slider too much it will cause the rear struts to lose air and squat. Overworking the compressor when asked to raise the car again this damaging both strits and compressor. So be careful and patient with undoing bolt and nut and adjusting the slider.

Youre gonna need a pair of $80 adjustable lowering links for the front. The way to deal with any small ride height issue and have no access to STAR is to lower the car at all four corners and adjust til its even all around.

Good luck.

The fault is still there, but at least u wont see it.

To clear the one or two faults a STAR system will be needed to recalibrate the car. Theyre pretty old so thats to be expected.

Face down A*s up is the way she likes it, Some times you do need to go all 50 shades of gray on her to get her to behave....

But in all seriousness I ment if you hit the trunk BUTTON the rear lowers and matches the hight of the front...

SLK230Auto - Your airmatic valve block is bad.

Haha Vonn :-]

Jeff wheres the valve block located. Didnt know AirMatic had one(or four).

VMAX7. The valve block is located on top of the airmatic pump. Both are in the front right of car. Accessable from under the car. You need to remove the right half of the front belly pan and it is right there. In front of the passenger front tire..
