Scanner for 2006 S500

Can anyone suggest a good scanner to find faults for my 2006 S500. I've seen iCaresoft MB 11 and Launch Creader advertised but I'd like input from the experience of the members here. Thank you.

Both are great entry level diagnostic tools, however like life itself you have to understand your limitations and what your expectations for the tool you plan to purchase.

I just want to be able to find out what is wrong with the vehicle for fault messages that can be triggered by different problems.
Thanks for the reply.

If that is all you want----go to Wallmart and for 20 bucks you can get a scanner!!

What kind of scanner do they have at Walmart for this? Thanks.

The last time I was in the auto section they had three different chicom brands and if you are simply looking to read the OBD faults, any one will due as they are all entry level!!

Get yourself one like that one in the attachment. IT works with an android blutooth device. They are good when a CEL light comes on if you and the family are taking a road trip. IT will even look up the code for you on the web. I keep one in my glove box.

That eBay Bluetooth adapter and the Walmart scanners are basic obd ii code readers that work on all cars but have no Mercedes specific capability . They will only read engine codes and not suspension , transmission , airbag etc

You want the carsoft mbii or x431 if you want to access Mercedes specific functions

They won't go in depth like star DAS but are the next best option for under $200

An OBD-II scanner is great for about 5% of the possible codes on your car.

IF you want to read the rest, as well as run diagnostics, get the STAR/DAS system. You'll be glad you did.
