This is a great video. I need to replace the torque arms on my S65 soon so this is very helpful. Quick question - what size ball joint separator did you purchase, and where exactly are you hitting with the hammer to separate the joint from the knuckle?

Thank you Amstel78! The S65 is an awesome car! The ball joint separator used is the GearWrench 3916D Universal Ball Joint Separator - 1-1/8" & 2-1/8" (30 & 56mm) Maximum Opening Capacity.

I'm hitting the lower part of the steering knuckle to the right of the thrust arm ball joint. Hitting around that area worked best for me, but there isn't an exact area to pinpoint. I would recommend keeping the hammer close to the ball joint. You want to keep the shock energy from the hammer as close to the joint as possible.

Are you just banging upwards with the hammer, allowing the tension applied by the separator to pop the joint free from the knuckle? Also curious as to how far you're opening the separator before you use the hammer.

Yes, upwards at around a 45 degree angle. As for how far I'm opening the separator, I don't really go by a set measurement in terms of length. I go by resistance. Once the separator is seated on pretty tight and it's taking quite a bit of effort to tighten the adjustment bolt I begin to use the hammer. If the hammer doesn't work after rapping it against the knuckle a few times I will tighten it a bit more and try again.
