Ive been a merc guy since I could drive. My last "s" was a new 03 S55, which was totaled in a head on collision in 2007.

I just made a change back from an old escalade as a daily driver to an 03 S500 with the appearance package I found with 120k miles. I cant believe how cheap they have gotten, and how well they seem to hold up when maintained.

Nice to be back in an S!

Why so cheap, because if you don't know how to fix the car yourself, you will need save a few grand to have Mercedes dealer or shop to do that for you. Most of cheap S reach the mileage around 100k to 170k and its about time to replace the expensive parts like suspension or ignition. I have seen some one got a 03 S55 with 130k miles from a used car lot for only $8,000 and within 3 month he spent more than $5k to have the car running normal !
The used car lot steam clean the engine bay and you can't see any oil leaks !
Usually these years of car does not come with any warranty !! After a few days driving, the oil leaks from everywhere !!
I also got a cheap 05 S600 from a used car lot and I spent more than $3k within one year to keep the car running fine without any problem, that's parts only and did not add my labor !!
:D

Yes yes, I'm aware.... I'll drop $3k next week getting it "right" no doubt. Still, a fine car even considering that.

The high repair costs are a main reason these cars are so cheap in the used market . I'm convinced if they had used a regular steel spring and regular shock suspension their values would be double .

That being said they are probably the best used luxury car deals out there - assuming you know how to fix them cheAply and not use a dealer for all repairs . They still have the repair costs of a $100,000 car

Truth, when these are well kept, the cars still blow minds. 120k isnt bad either, assuming it has a lot of the common service/failure items taken care of. How much did you pick it up for if you don't mind?

$6kplus $3k in service needs. I'll run it up to 250k.

Motor and trans amounts and new tires. Should be good for another 40k now.
