Brake Dust Removal

Hello,

Just wanted to share a tip I found on other forums.

I recently upgraded from my 2001 E430 Sport (after my wife got into a small accident which was determined to be a total loss by the insurance company so I bought it back from them for $350, but that's a whole other story) to a 2005 S430 4matic. There were many problems with the car....bad engine, bad exhaust (clogged catalytic converters), bad steering rack, conductor plate and a few minor electrical issues with the headlights. All problems have either been repaired or replaced by me.

Now I'm concerned about the appearance of the car. Aside from a bad body and bad paint (neither are an issue on this car), I feel there are two things on any car that can make it look disgusting.

#1. Oxidized Headlight lenses.
#2. Filthy rims covered in a layer of brake dust.

I've been able to change out the the lenses on the headlights with lenses I found a local junkyard ($10 each, SCORE!) .....so they look new now. That leaves me to my next largest eyesore on any car.....brake dust. I've switched to Ceramic Pads to reduce future issues, but the brake dust problem was already present.

I've found nothing that would make this go away after it's been baked on from years of neglect.....until now.

Easy-Off oven cleaner:

1. Spray it on (no need to wait)
2. Gently scrub with a plastic bristle brush (toothbrush would do)
3. Hose off.

ZERO elbow grease required. I don't even know if I even needed to use the brush.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Just wanted to share this. I'm sure others have known about this, but now I know and if you didn't, you know now.

Dirty Baked-On Brake Dust. Years of neglect from prior owner.

Easy-Off Oven Cleaner: Spray on, no need to wait, gently rub with plastic bristle brush, hose off. THAT'S IT!!!!!!
A second go at cleaning probably would make it look even better.

Have anyone tried Calgon Nu-Brite for wheel cleaning? It's great for coil: wet, spray, rinse.
It's great for grease removal tooBrake Dust Removal-photo122.jpg
