I had an s430 that had that issue. I went to visit my mom and when I went back in the car it wouldn't work. Long story short my car sat there for a few days while I ordered a new key.. now every MB I buy that doesn't have a spare gets a key ordered ASAP.

Most keys can be repaired.

Especially if the door lock function still works.
