help i think i drowned her
 

put gas in a week ago and the auto shut off didn't shut off so she was over filled. romped on the gas to burn as much off as i could and made it home (6 miles away) with a bit of jumpiness, drove her for a week with no problems, went to leave work yesterday and the check engine light came on.

what should i check? or am i headed to her doctor?

For a simple check engine light, you can drop by an Advance Auto or other parts store - most will do a free code check for you while you wait. Be sure to be there ready to write down any codes pulled up. Let us know what the codes are.

the code said P0450-evaporative emission system pressure sensor/switch. and the check engine light didn't come on when my husband started her up to get the code. he said there was only one instance and he cleared it so she will be fine to drive-we just need to look into the cost of replacing that part in the future. whew thought i had killed her.

I doubt that the problem is a faulty sensor, but instead might well be that the faulty nozzle did overfill the tank. Virtually all tanks in newer vehicles have a small dome or pocket at the top of the tank for air space over the top of the fuel. This allows the warming fuel (which may be cooler in the large underground storage tank than it will be once it warms up in your tank, unless it is really cold outside) somewhere to go as it expands. If there is no expansion room, the trapped fuel in the tank, with no expansion space, may cause more pressure than desired. There is, of course, a relief valve to prevent damage to the system, but that valve holds some higher pressure in the tank until you use enough fuel to reestablish the desired air space.

Just drive the car, and if you don't see any codes, don't worry about it.

helga has been fine since my husband cleared the code, no hesitating or jumpiness, we bought her used with 110,540 miles on her and i have added close to 7000 more in the year i owned her-my family lives in Utah, but i don't know if she has had other issues or how the previous owner took care of her. after we bought her we had to have a new ignition system put in-the shop said she had thrown over 99 instances of that particular code.
