Slytoksy - Thanks for the Saturday morning preview of the Monday picture release. You always seem to get the "early" pictures. So, what do you think of the W221 ? Is it better or worse than you expected ?

omg... why do they have to use the i-drive system? and those seats are similar copies to the ones used in the 7 series. not too happy about the interior. other opinions??

2006 VW Passat
at first sight i loved it........ then i saw the interior they dont need something like bmw the way the sclass interior is currently set is great, i personally love it cause no other brand does it, everyone else has the navigation screens popping up out of the top of the dash, or like bmw, and the i drive **** is just gay

The steering wheels looks gay.... WTF did they do? The interior looks nothing like an S-Class used to or at least should look. It screams BMW with a passion.
The exterior is not that bad. It's slowly growing. But IMHO I prefer the look of the W220 to this.

2007 S600, 2002 S430, Bently Continental GT coming soon..., Falcon 50.
The interior is a direct copy of the BMW. The exterior I am starting to like, not too sure about the flared fenders though.
I just don't understand why Mercedes would copy BMW's interior, I love both cars but for what they each are. I was thinking of either trading my S430 in for a new S-Class or the older S-55....I think I just got my answer.

W211 & Q7

I don't like the raised trunk but it is a new way to tell the cars behind that "you are following a flagship, e.g. w221, e65, rl, or maybach, etc." I believe Lexus ls will have both raised trunk and flared fenders. not sure for infiniti q45 because nissan has its own taste.
The dimensions of a car ...
wheelbase "including fenders" -- 3100 mm
"trunk height" -- 1000 mm
I give w221 interior 10 of 10. exterior 8 of 10.

Well, it's offical, I'm never buying another MB. I'm sure the i-Drive like system and all of its annoying quirks will find its way into all of their cars when they get redesigned.
This thing idea of this thing with some 22" HRE 847r's is seeming better and better...
Why is it that Audi's MMI is so much better? Could it be that Audi did what even BMW did when they redesigned the 5-series? They listened to people's complaints about why they disliked i-drive -- one of the biggest complaints being that there were no auxillary controls. That appears to be the same problem with the new MB system from looking at the interior shots.
On the audi system, if you want to adjust the temperature or fan speed, etc, you can just turn the ***. The climate control system automatically pops up on the computer so you can input advanced options if you'd like, but quickly goes away and returns you to the previous screen. With MMI, the computer is there for advanced features, and everything you could possibly imagine is programmable, but you never have to interact with the computer if you don't wish to.
I think what it came down to is simply that Audi didn't seek to reinvent the driving process, just enhance it, unlike BMW and now MB. I was able to give my technically illiterate mother the keys to my A6 and she managed to make it to Safeway and back. I'd like to see someone try that with a 7-series.
I'm reserving my final judgements for when I actually get to see this car in person, but it's not looking promising.
