Word.

Also I love the new 7-Serie...S-Class interior

The rear view camera needs to IMO be angled lower so I can see the road.

Oh my. They just need to completely redo that steering wheel because it's just... half-assed, I should say.

I like the interior. New, but I guess innovative in its own way.

That is some high tech instrument panel. I can't wait until someone figures out how to play DVDs on it.

I have read that there will be 2 views from the rear camera. One aimed to the "back" and one, as you suggest, angled down to the road.

Hmmmm...

...if you will humor an unbiased opinion from an industry engineer and development consultant...

The interior is horrific, except for the seating...which I think will be the most comfortable in the luxury market. MB has always had great seating, but I think they've finally realized the fine balance between 'support' and 'distance comfort'. Expect the interior to be somewhat of a 'rattle trap' with the dash and door design.

The exterior is a great effort in blending the late '99 and early '00 body styles with goals of achieving both a solid and sporty shape. The lines of the car demand your attention.

First-model-year: Beware...my FMY 2000 S500 was plagued with problems. I traded it for a 2006 S430 with the 7-speed transmission. Overall, the car has been ok...but the new trans has been a little 'off'...sometimes it likes to downshift below the normal gearing for your 'realistic' speed. (causing a the proverbial 'thunk-n-jerk'.

This trans issue has been spotty. I'm not sure if it's a computer issue or a trans issue. I'm letting the dealership work it out. But, I know it has not been good on the transmission.

The ones on the roof would be the standard cell phone/On-star type antenna, and the one on the trunk would probably be for serrius radio type antenna. Although with this much technology in the car why can't they make it hidden inside the trunk or something.

I think that's the new infrared headlight option.

2 years and 27,000 miles later, my 04 S500 7-Gtronic is still learning how I drive. The occasional downshift "thunk" is intermittant, but scary every time it occurs. The good news is the transmission makes the S500 much quicker than it's 5-speed brother.

i like it

would our consultant like to elaborate on why it's gonna be a rattle trap, please?

personally i think the wood trim is a little too much - something thinner would be nicer - perhaps just covering the centre aircon vents - but i'm not complaining - it looks like very high quality stuff.

and the resolution of the electronic speedometer is amazing! i honestly wouldn't be able to tell it's electronic if i wasn't looking for it.

agree that the antennae looks retarded - what it is with car designers nowadays? first the 7 has it; then the S40; and now the S as well??!! do all designers go to the same school, read the same mags and chill at the same clubs? looks like the rudder from an upside down boat! i hope it's just an option - mars an overwise near-perfect exterior.

btw, based on this link, the antennae DOES seem to be an option - the euro spec cars certainly don't have them:

The sirius antenna is the one on the trunk. It is what they do for the e-class currently unless you ask the dealer to install it more steathily.

Look like Mercedes hire those designer from the GM over for the interior design. The wood look fake, and what's up with that bland space ???

The instrument cluster looks awesome, the rest of the interior is imply ugly & look cheap.

zam: didn't notice the stitching around the leather on the centre console now, did u :P it might LOOK similar, but wait til you touch it imo the interior needs a lighter colour to bring it out - black doesn't really work.
