New S-Class to be lower in base price?

My father spoke to MB of Princeton, N.J. today & was dealing with the brother of the owner. He was told that the car's introduction will be on February 15th and also that the S550 will actually start @ a LOWER base price than the '06 model.

Sounds like a good possibilty given the stronger dollar these days......what do you guys think?

Price

I don't know I have been reading magezines and reports that the base price will be just under $80,000 for the S550. I think that the base price will be around $79,000. I think that is up $4,000 from the W220 S500 base price. Has anyone else heard different?

Uhhh...$4000 higher than the 2006 W220 S500 base price would be $90,825. From what I've read/heard the base price for the S450 will be around $79,000 and for the S550 it will be around $89,000-$90,000.

I do not think MB prices have ever gone down. I have heard that MB price increases are in the same category as death and taxes, a sure thing.

Is it possible that the dealer was speaking in equipment adjusted dollars?
Meaning that after you add the previously unavailable new features that are now standard,
the car actually costs less than before.
Or maybe they are just adding standard features that you used to have to pay extra for?
I know BMW has been using these types of selling points on their new models.

S550 Pricing

Reading the MB teaser ads; it sounds like more things will be standard. Remember, a compaibly equiped BMW 750 is much cheaper than current S. I am not sure how that works.

Exactly what I heard and I think your figures are very close. No 2007 S550 is going to sell for under $80K. My 2006 S430 listed for $78,025 base.

Sorry everyone, I got the price for the 450 and 550 mixed up. I think the 550 wil sell in the mid to high 80's. I thought what I put may had been wrong after I had submited it. But I knew that someone was going to correct me. Does anyone know when the official prices come out.

When the present S class body style was introduced in 2000 I believe the base price when down substantially.

MB has been known to change the pricing (or at least when adjusted for inflation) when launching a new chassis.

Actually, the most expensive S-classes in recent memory were the W140's ( I named mine, "Bruiser" ) when they first came out in 1992. The 400SE was nearly $84,000. Prices were LOWERED in 1995.

Just had this conversation last night with my grandfather when I took him to play blackjack. Still does pretty good for 83. He was not too happy when they lowered the prices pretty drastically in '95. Was with him when he bought his '94 S500 tank. He ended up paying app. $105,000.It listed for more than that.
