"V" indicates Long Wheel Base model. "W" is Standard or Short Wheel Base model.

this must be a new thing for the new S, b/c ive never seen a V or a W on the rear of any S-class. i was at the dealer a few weeks ago and the S550 in the showroom just said S550. and all the pics ive seen just say S550 on the badge on the trunk.

The badge on the car is S550...the V designation is on the order or the official number for the car. It is the code for LWB "V" vs SWB (W)
Hey...how come you guys that advise one and all to steer clear of the 2000 W220 because of "first year blues" are jumping in line to get this "first year" beauty?

Cause we have new found faith in Mercedes after successful model launches of the new E, CLS, R, ML, SLK, SL, and now S. I have had no problems with our W221 S and IMO seems a bit more reliable in the electronics department than my TL.
Plus, this new model has been tested beyond exhaustion and will not have any of the problems such as SBC did since Mercedes has found a way to get SBC features without the hassels of SBC.
