2006 CLS 500(sold), 2005 C230K, 2005 E 320,
why do some cars have the double fins?

Just wondering how come some of the s550's have 2 fins. Mine came with one, and the the regular Sirius blob. I thought the 2 fins looked overly extravagant, but now I'm thinking it looks interesting. I mean, alot of passerbyer's would look twice, wondering how much technology is packed into a car with 2 fins. Its reminds me of the days when the prior s class came out in the two little rods when shifting into reverse. Back then I was one of those passerbyers and it was amazing to see those things pop out.

update: almost 4,000 miles troublefree.

The two fin S550's are early models. All the dealer demos had two fins and some of the earilest production models had them also. They then went to the "hockey puck" style (which I had on my '06 S430). I had heard rumors that eventually they would eliminate the trunk antenna all together...I don't know where that stands at the moment.

Thank for the post. I thought the same, but wasnt sure because I figured the car we have was first in production. I guess they modify it inbetween. Its wierd, because I was in Orlando and I saw a brandnew S550 with 2 fins for sale. I guess that means it was a demo. I didnt check the mileage, I just assumed it was off the truck.

Hope all is well in Vegas.

Could have been an early production model that has just not sold.

Everything is LV is fine...hot but nothing unusual for summer here..humidity about 10%.

yeah the trunk hockey puck will soon be a thing of the past on the V221.

The 2007 E-Class has no trunk antenna - everything is integrated into one body-colored unit on the rear of the roof. I never liked the "trunk wart" and am glad to hear it will be leaving the S-Class.
