Ferrari or S600
#26
Have you considered upgrading your new S 600 with an renntech ECU/TCU upgrade etc.?? You could easily get over 650 HP and over 800 torque in your car. Also, did you ever consider just getting an S65?
Also, do you feel that your S600 needs a brake upgrade? Or does the factory brakes feel very strong and fade free to you?
I know Renntech and Brabus offer some serious brake upgrades.

I totaly agree with this also, but unless i am racing at the track I just can't justify the extra money for a car with less standard options. I think 150 grand is plenty enough for a car especially when i already own 2 other 2007 vehicles for a total of $320,000 worth of cars, I think i have a car buying illness
dun worry... i think it's not that bad... your 2007 cars are not so high end afterall..

What the heck is an S350. anyways, when you upgrade from a more powerful engine in the first place, you are gonna get a lot more power and torque, so if you spend 8000 to upgrade, the answer is no, you won't get the same power from an S550 (if thats what you meant) that you would get in a S600 . first of all, any car with a turbo or supercharger is gonna get a lot more HP and TQ because one thing the prgrams do is boost the chargers.

He may have meant S550, but there seems to be a real S350.

A Ferrari is a sport coupe, and a performance machine. The S-Class is a luxury sedan, that offers a lot of power. While they are on 'similar' levels, they are cars you own both, not decide - 'should I get a Ferrari or an S-Class'... As others have said, I can hear the question - 'Should I get a Ferrari or an SL'.
But even that question is useless -- there's a reason why Ferrari's don't have iPod Adapters (actually they do!), and heated seats and all those other features: it's simply not the point of the car -- you think Ferrari is stupid and can't figure out how to put a AUX cord! For those that want a luxury sports coupe there is the SL. And if you want a more exclusive one, you can buy an Aston Martin (V8 Vantage), or even Bentley (GT). But a Ferrari, like a Pagani or any other super car, means so much more than heated/cooled seats, DVD Command/6 CD Changer, or activating night vision -- in fact not having those things is what makes a Ferrari a Ferrari.
By the way, an S600 can't beat a Ferrari 360. Never. Ever, ever, ever. Never. Don't listen to those numbers published on the magazines. Pull up to a driver (with the same skill-set as you), and race him, you will wonder why the Benz isn't keeping up. That 0-60 time is a straight line, drive your heavy, heavy, heavy S600 into a corner and see what happens.... Oh wait a minute, I forgot the S600 is limited to 130MPH, so actually in the straight way, you won't even see the Ferrari

ALSO!
It's worth saying, an S65 or S63 on a track (city road) with a Ferrari would be a great race - the AMG suspension, the AMG brakes, and the 100's of extra horsepower will surely be at disposal, however, the S600, I'm not too sure it'll even beat an M5 (or E63).

Oh and by the way
Technically although considered an in house tuner, the AMG models are performance tuned Mercedes. So, with that being the case, its very easy to modify an S600 (Brabus, Renntech etc. )and get far more horsepower and torque than the AMG models and far more than even a Ferrari 430, and removing the speed limiting governor ( wich is actually 155 ) is a piece of cake, Modifying a Ferrari though is not that easy, even the Ferrari Challenge Stradale is mostly modified through exhaust, brakes, suspension and weight and is not that much faster than a normal 360. If you would like to confirm this contact IFS owner John Tirelle one of the top Ferrari Shops in New England and a very good friend of mine. Obviously you've never owned a car with Mercedes ABC suspension which handles a large car very well, maybe not as well as a Ferrari on a corner but that time will be made up when the straights come. reading magazines, web pages and maybe acting like you can afford a high end car and test driving it at the dealership does not count, you will only really know about these cars through long term ownership, and even then, everyone has their own opinion.

Dude you've been dreaming far too much, first of all the S600 is only .3 seconds slower than the S65, and which Ferrari are you talking about mr. know it all. the 360 is not as fast as you may think, The 430, thats another story, I've owned two 360's in the past 4 years, have you owned one or even driven one for that matter. When you get to the point where you have owned High end cars, then, come talk like you know something.

And for those who doubt the S600 here is a recent quote also from car and driver. And although you can't believe everything you read, at least these writers had the advantage of really driving the cars.
"The S600 blasts to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. Know what that means? To 60 mph, this 2.5-ton Teuton is quicker than:
1. A Porsche 911 Carrera S.
2. A Chevrolet Corvette convertible.
3. A Ferrari 612 Scaglietti F1.
The S600 whooshes through the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds, same as a Lamborghini Murciélago"
A lot of people underestimate torque and 612 lb-ft of Torque is no joke

Having issues with Kleemann now, causes misfires after heavy acceleration and loses boost until restarting engine to reset.
Kleemann boys working on solution now, will see what happens?

My anecdotal obsvn is that in much more self-drive Greenwich/Woodside, lots of the smarter titans (esp those who are car guys) commute via humble SL55s or CL550/600 (many hate the 65's poor real-world traction)...and also have 599 in their fleet as a favored commuter/wkend car....and are eager to get the allegedly underpowered CL63.....hmmm....

Are there any guys w/IQs >100 who actually choose to buy May/RR, etc???? In NYC, major hedge/pvt eq kings seem to favor nondescript S550/600 and driver to follow them around town.....

commuter
Actually a Rolls would not be out of my league, its just that a prefer variety, and don't wanna look like a stuffed up rich old guy . My S600 is my commuter car (although I talk about its speed, I wont be doing donuts, drifting or in a drag race with it.) My 2007 Escalade is my snowy day car and construction job site car, oh and my sons limo so he can watch cartoons. And my 2007 cadillac XLR-V is for playing (boutght it cause of the power and the fact that it was under 100 grand means i willl do donuts, drifting and drag race it. (went to buy an SL65 but decided on the S600 for a top Benz and got the XLR-V to be sporty in) Obviously I could get rid of all three and buy, SL65, or ferrari f430, or close to whatever I want. but thats not how I wanted to do it at this time.

Okay, okay...
xecution - What I meant was simply that the Ferrari is in a different category as the Mercedes, that's why it's unfair to compare the 2 cars. I think Ferrari just likes to stick to their heritage of making fast cars with good performance - and that's why I understand why they don't have all the gadgets that Mercedes, BMW, or Audi or whoever else has.
Secondly, my point about the S600 is that in a street race (not straight line, and not 0-60mph) it's likely not to beat the Ferrari, due to the other factors - suspension (non-AMG), braking (non-AMG), sway-bars (non-AMG), whereas the Ferrari will easily achieve great performance and handling. I think you agree with that--or maybe not. The S65/63 offers better performance, though it's only .03 seconds faster, due to all the other AMG built parts.
Anyway, I'm not trying to knock the S600, it's a remarkable car (trust me, I know ), but was just pointing out that the Ferrari is a better performance car, even if it's slightly.
Anyway, congrats on your car - to me, and many others, the S-Class is the best sedan in the world.
