It's alive!!!
Just got the good news from my dealer that FINALLY after months of frustration my car has been produced and is awaiting shipment. Woohoo!!!
About damn time. It was built with the following: 197 Obsidian Black exterior 808 Grey/Dark Grey Premium Leather interior P2A Premium 2 057 iPod Integration Kit 218 Dynamic Rear View Monitor 297 Power Rear Seat Window Sunblinds 321 AMG Sport-Package 325 Rear Seat Package 432 Drive Dynamic Multicontour Front Seats 443 Heated Steering Wheel 487 Active Body Control (ABC) 610 Night View Assist 881 Electronic Trunk Closer Thanks to this board for advice on options and general moral support as I struggled to get a car (since November!) close to what I wanted. I'm still upset I couldn't get distronic plus. But other than that, I got close to what I wanted. The big things for me were ABC, rear seat package, side window blinds and the seats. |

WOW!!! Whats the MSRP on that baby?
And it ended up being difficult to get it done, actually. MSRP is $110,475 |
Congrats

Well, it's not fully loaded of course. But it does have some options on it. Which I know is not smart (to buy a car with so many options). But I seem to do it time and time again. :) What can I say, I'm just not smart.

Congratulations! I know the feeling. Mine finally made it out of port in Baltimore aboard a train to Denver. It sat there a week before getting on the train. I also know your frustration on the "options" offered. I could not get the rear camera but was able to get the distronic and night vision (important for country driving). Unbelievable the way they decide what option you can have and not have on your car. Anyway, don't hold your breath as it will still be a while for it to get here from Germany. Mine took about a week to cross and then another week in port here before getting on the train which will take another week.
Congrats on getting the distronic, btw. I drove a car with it recently in moderate traffic and it was an awesome feature. Really a must have (if you can get it) on a luxury car in my opinion. I'm not sure about the night view. I have it on my car also. We'll see how much I really like it. On the weekends we try to spend a lot of time far away from DC where there isn't nearly as much light (and no street lamps), so I'm looking forward to testing it in those conditions. |
Happy to hear your car was finally built. The ABC is an option worth while waiting for. The distronic plus is ok, but only a glorified cruise control.
My S550 was ordered in September; promised for December; actually built in January; and delivered last week Monday, or approx., seven weeks after being built. I do not want to discourage you, but ships and trains are slow, and may add to your frustration. In the long run, you will not regret the wait. The car is worth it. |

So I'm happy now that the car exists with these options (and it's got my name on it.) A few extra weeks won't kill me. Besides, track season is revving up soon anyway. So who cares? |
Congratulations! Gives me hope that perhaps I'll have some good news about my order as well given our similar planned production dates.
Just had the end of lease inspection on my A8L today, it has to go back to Audi by 10 April. Looks like I'll have to borrow a car from my folks, who are out of the country anyway, until my car arrives. |

I imagine yours should be done very soon also. Exciting, isn't it? No matter how many great cars you buy, it's still like being 8 years old on Christmas eve. :)

Oh, s***, I just checked the shipping site. I hadn't checked in a couple of days.
It seems that my car left Germany 2 days ago! Expected in Baltimore on April 3! As I run around the house in my underwear, my wife wants to know how she ended up married to an 8 year old. :D It doesn't matter how many cool cars you pull into your garage, it never gets old. :y Rkao, I hope your car is on the same ship? Did you get your VIN? |

I've not heard a peep but will check with my sales rep tomorrow and see if we have a VIN and a ship date and then report back. Oh, and that bit about running around in your underwear, entirely TOO MUCH INFORMATION! |
Got the word from the dealer today! I should be able to pick up the car either Friday afternoon or Saturday.
5 months later, I'm finally getting the car!!! |
Congrats on the purchase, sounds like she's going to be a beauty...

And it ended up being difficult to get it done, actually. MSRP is $110,475 it is really unbelievable how "cheap" these cars are in the US...here in germany you would end up with approx 125.000€ for such a car.:smash: |

/QUOTE I keep thinking that Distronic Plus is a must have since I get tired of manually dereasing/increasing cruise speed on interstate driving. I.m somewhat surprised that you think it is just ok. Can you elaborate a little more on how it works and what the pros and cons are? I need the 4matic so I'll just forget about the pluses with the ABC, but I agree it has to really be a great feature. Congratulations! It sure wasn't an easy experience but I'm sure the result will be worth it.
I still have no word on mine and after seeing your post, just left a message with my rep to see what the REAL status is. Given that it's already the 5th of April and they told me back in January that delivery will be by the middle of this month, it's NOT going to happen. :nix: I just hope that this doens't mean I'll have to re-re-consider my alternatives AGAIN!! :X Enjoy it and post pics when you get it please! I'll keep you posted on my status on PM. Hopefully it will be good news...:scared: |
For some reason the VPC was super quick in my case. The car was unloaded, through customs, through the VPC inspection/ipod install and released to the truck all in less than 24 hours after the ship arrived in the harbor. The car's at the dealership already. But I'm travelling today and I have meetings all day tomorrow. So I just can't get over there to get it until Sat AM. But believe me, I'll be there as soon as they open!
Good luck with your status. Definitely keep me posted. |
OK, I couldn't wait any longer. I took an earlier flight back and I'm going home now to get my checkbook and go to the dealership. After 5 months, I can't stand the thought of my car sitting at the dealership instead of in my garage.
I should have know where was no way I was going to wait until Sat. What was I thinking??? :rolf: Will post pics tonight... |

C I find that the distance between vehicles is too small, even when set for maximum, and I would not dare use it in stop and go traffic. Thus the " just ok." |
Lets see the pics :)

OK, just got back from our traditional dinner out to celebrate a new car. It's pretty late, but here are the first crappy middle of the night in the FREEZING COLD pictures. :)
Better pictures coming this weekend in the daylight... |
