Question 2008 S Class Pricing and Option Questions? S550 and S600 (PICS)

Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum. I currently have a launch edition 2007 Black/Black S550 as my daily driver and I am thinking of upgrading to a 2008 S600. I looked at a new S63 AMG yesterday and drove it but I think I would be more satisfied with the big V-12.

A couple of questions for those of you smarter than me in the benz world.

My local dealer has a black/black 2008 S600 that they are asking sticker for which is $149,610. How much should I expect to buy this car for off sticker if any?

I also saw a 2007 Black/Black S600 and a silver one as well with some kind of performance upgrade (similar to the S65 AMG). The black one is advertised has having all opts. +rare AMG appear. pack, Kleemann perf. pack=627Hp

These cars are badged with the S600 Bi Turbo tags and has an extra V12 logo on the trunk lid. Is this some special model or S600 option? Here are some pics:

Also I am going to pick up my wife a 2008 S550 in white with a sticker of around $92K. I am going to do both cars at the same time to work the best deal with the dealer. What is realistic to expect to negotiate on the S550 assuming a cash deal and no trades?

Thanks in advance for the advise and I look forward to becoming a frequent member here and will post up pics when I take them.

Thanks,
Brad

That black 600 doesnt have the AMG pack...and someone just stuck V12 logos on at the dealer (not from fact.) Who know which engine mod it really has. I would stay away from that car since any mods it may have will marked up anyway. It would most likely be cheaper to buy a 2007 600 stock and have the mods done yourself.

2007 S600
The one that you have in the picture above is an S600 with a partial AMG package. It seems to have the AMG valances along the sides and it seems to have the AMG curtain along the bottom rear area with the pipes protruding through it. However, it is missing the AMG spoiler and lights on the front end of the car. Also, the performance package should not really add more than around $5-6K because I had a performance upgrade by Renntech done for around $5300. So don't let the dealer stick you with a $20K increase because of that!

Also, it appears that the middle of that wheel is all scratched up. Is it or is that a picture anomoly???

The badges are of no importance at all in the negotiations as they were no more than $200. I paid $120 for my V12 Biturbo badging.
This car seems to have some stories along with it but it may not be a problem.

ALSO, it seems the prices on the S600 went up around $5000 because they were at $144000 last year. Oooops. I just checked the Mercedes website and they still advertise it for MSRP at $144K with total price of $147K. I guess the difference is gas guzzler tax or something, I can't remember.

How many miles are on the car above??? I see that it has been titled with a tag on it. Normally this car (with mods and all) shouldn't be over $160K retail, but since it is titled, I wouldn't give more than $135K for it. A dealer will most likely only give you $120K for it on trade in, (and that's if he is in a good mood). I always use trade in value for starters when buying used. I feel the midpoint between trade in value and retail is a fairly good price.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replies. I am not considering the black one above I was just wondering WTF was with it and where the options actually MB USA options which sounds like a hell no.

I did buy a brand new 2008 Mercedes S550 today in Arctic White with cashmere interior for $5K off of the $92,070 sticker which I thought was good.

Still shopping the 08 S600. I will post pics tomorrow of the 550, great car.

Brad

Hey Guys,

Here is a few pictures of our new 2008 S550. I was able to get $5000 off of sticker from my local dealer. The car looks and drives awesome!

Why don't you go the coupe route for the 600? Since you already have two S Classes--though I assume one of them will be traded--I personally do not see a point of having two of one model.

If I had the spare cash, i would do the CL65, S600 Sport, and the new-nose 2009 SL65 when it comes out. A trio of the MB top line is a must for any MB nut with enough garage space and green to burn up.

Ask to see the original sticker. See if they start back pedaling.

This car looks like it originally had the full sport package and got into a frontal accident, only instead of buying the amg bumper the body shop actually installed the wrong bumper from a standard vehicle.

Does it drive different than your first one?

Anyways, from your cars list, "Vehicle I drive: 2007 Mercedes S550, 2002 Ferrari 360 Spider, 2007 Cadilliac Escalade ESV" and your avatar I thought for a moment you might have been my neighbor! But you're actually kind of far away.

Good luck with your 600 search! The 08's have slightly different exhaust tips.

Fake badges

As to me badges on black S600 are fake cheap cusom job by dealer ...LOL..
Its right...S600 has AMG option.(its if you want all the S600 you can get plus AMG S600).sticker price + 6000 Euros...it includes front and rear AMG original bumpers (not aftermarket crap)....plus anditsmost debated by people on the street...is there S600 AMG....usually I hear-No there is no S600 AMG....technically they are right...in S600 you don't get extra horses orsomeAMG tuning...only 2 bumpers ..Cromodora Rims +6000 Euros (yes they extra but they are worth the price...no aftermarket come close to them) and its it....so its no really AMG.....but...but...in realality they are wrong..S600 AMG real, original car that comes as original, from MB dealership, brand new as S600 AMG....for those paid extras in car sticker with all the options listed...CAr is S600 AMG....
Its when they put this special emblem AMG on the car...One left side of a trunk says S600-another right side AMG....now its rare S600....it has the most options available on S600..
As to me V12 andbiturbo emblem was also reinstalled or something (might be damaged car) they just did not put emblems right...LOL
on my it says V12 and under it itsays biturbo...On the pictured car above..its all lined up....So to me it looks like cheap dealership "custom" job to plain S600...
On the trunk:left side is good -S600....but right side says V12..Never seen s...t like that...It should not be there....It should say AMG (the option I was talking about) if the car has this option.
BUT...there is a big question than to MB in Germany...are the emblems have to be attached uniform andto the manufacturer standards or you guys in Germany put themwhereyou want and what emblems you have available...(no standard of placing)????
As I seen so manypictures on internet where peoplesell their car..they say its S600 or AMG S600 and in 10-30% of those cars emblems were not in the riht spot or totally different emblem was there...???How is it possible? damaged and fixed cars by cheap dealerthat doesn't know what they are doing (I don't think so).....fake emblems (maybe)...or maybe MB from the factory doesn't have thestandard of placing them??? I have S600 AMG and I seen at least 3 cars on the pictures where people say itsS600 AMG but emblems are placed incorrectly or different emblemis there...
Oh, I forgot to mention...MY S600 is long...But I don't have L emblem on the trunk (maybe they forgot toattach it..LOL) but in sticker price of the vehicle its listed as LONG version...I seen few S600 Long and they had L letternextto S600...
So do Germans loose the badges or they place them not under any standard...???
In my personal experience with S class...you better look at sticker of the vehicle as it came from dealership, if you want to know what you are buying ...DONT TRUST EMBLEMS AND BADGES!!!!

Bringing up a 9 year old post about a discontinued car is a good first contribution.
