Re-Painting my 2007 S65 HHEELLPPP

Ok... I took my car on a road ralley and the entire hood, front skirt and front side panels are TRASHED... It literally looks like someone took white paint and splattered it all over the front end of my car. I need to get it re-painted...

Suggestions on where to get it painted? I don't care about price or location.

Yeah, I'll post some pics later this week.

I can't believe your dealer did it for free... Mine charged me 200 bucks and kept the updated Disc (Not that I needed it anyway)...

Sorry to hear about this. What happened? Did you wreck and hit something and tear up the panels or just scratched them up badly?
got any pix to show us so we can get a better idea of the damage?

I wish you lived in my area because I have a man that can perform miracles on MBs. Just too far away to come here I know.

whatever you do make sure they use MBUSA recommended refinishing products to redo the nano-clear coat.

If you repaint the bumper, hood, and most likely fenders, you will depreciate your car at least 10% onto of normal depreciation If you bought the car, take pictures before and after repaint so people know it wasn't repainted due to a wreck. If it's a lease, then who cares!

6 Days, 3,000 miles.... Driving close behind other exotics going high speeds all day long. Rock chips galore..... It was worth every every scratch, dent and chip... Best time I've had in awhile. My S65 was one of the very few cars that didn't have one single problem the entire road ralley. Hats off to MB.

Would just get a new car....

Any car is disposable/obsolescent after 5-10K mis/6-12mos anyway....

Post-factory work is typically suboptimal anyway vs robotics/automation of factory, esp re: paints, etc.....and price oppty cost of one's time vs mtce downtime/hassles.....

True , but to take a $50K loss does not offset any minor post-factory work deficiencies. Some of these guys can do some seriously good work in repairs and if love2ski is planning on keeping the car, I'd keep it, get it fixed and move on. If I knew who did the bodywork, knew the reputation, I would not hesitate at all to purchase a repaired car like this (with a discount of course). But you're right, nothing beats the factory method of painting but folks like me can't afford a $50K loss in a trade.

Overall, this whole thing is a serious misfortune to say the least.

Did you get your car repaired/repainted? What's the latest?

I actually know what's going on. He is trying to sell his car on another forum and is not disclosing this mishap on that forum. It also got a ton of mods done to it....new black wheels, removed the chrome around doors and windows and painted them black, put DVD monitors into it, etc. I check on that forum about once every two months and just happened to come across it.

I actually was going to sell it and get some type of convertible for the summer, but I decided to keep it for another year. My thought was if I was going to sell it in April, I might as well sell it now, because I can't drive it a lot in the winter time and all it is going to do is depreciate....It's pretty much one of the hardest decisions of my life. I was going to keep it and re-paint it, then I said "F*** it" and I'll just sell it. I thought about it long and hard and I want to keep it for another year. I would literally take a 100,000 hit on this vehicle in 1 year. It won't hurt as bad if it's 2... haha.. Anyway, that's why I posted a re-paint job, then I posted that I wanted to sell it....

How much are wanting for it? It looked damn good in that picture I stumbled on in that "other" forum. You did a great job with it, that's for sure.
Honestly, I wish you would keep it.

I always get this itch every Christmas to buy something else, so I sold my 2006 Super Charged Range Rover and picked up another one that is 2008. Black with White interior and Piano Black Wood... Absolutely beautiful vehicle... As far as the Nav goes, it sucks. I would have to say it's the worst Navigation system ever known to man. It is so incredibly hard to input a destination or find ANYTHING on the map. My S65's Nav is incredible and nothing can compare to it. So easy to use and so user friendly.

Also, did you just have to buff out the paint problem? Everything looks fine to me. If I were on the market for a 65, yours would be the pick of the bunch.

I haven't done anything with it. I'm going to take quite a few photos of the front end of the car before I sell it, so that the next buyer knows it was not ever wrecked and it was just a re-paint job to clean it up a little bit..

LMAO. I know how you feel as I've traded for a new car at least once a year for 20 years. I get bored with a car after around 18 months but the current S class keeps me happy. I'm gonna stop trading now because I've got the itch to retire in 5 years and the car deals are the only thing in my way.

Well get this.... I'm 28 and have always owned at least 3 cars personally, since I was about 18. I just registered my S65 and it was the first time I had ever registered a car in my life!! I got this letter in the mail from the State of Utah to register my car and I thought they I was in trouble or something when I first looked at the envelope!!.... hahahah

Here is an Example of some of my cars in the past 3 years....

2001 Lexus 9 months
2005 E500 8 months
2005 G55 4 months
2006 Super Charged Range Rover 4 months
2006 Grand Cherokee Hemi-6 months
2006 E55 11 months (Almost a year)
2007 Toyota Tacoma (8 months)
2007 GL450 12 months (Almost a year)
2007 S65 13 months (woot woot)!
2008 Super Charged Range Rover (Currently 2 weeks)

Illegally.

You buy a car out of state. The dealer sends you the MSO/MCO and expects you to register the car with your state. You don't, thus, saving you sales tax and registration. You can also sell/trade cars this way as well.

This works well if you have large sums of cash (which the OP does) and do not need to finance or lease the car.

Getting pulled over and fined for not registering the car is pennies compared to sales tax and registration heh.

Either that or he has a dealer (wholesale or retail) license.

He probably means that the dealer usually registered his car and he never had to go to DMV to actually do it himself.
