Rattle behind the instrument panel

Rattle behind the instrument panel
Time to time, when I'm driving in S and going over uneven road surface, I can hear a rattle just behind the instrument panel. Sounds as if a piece of plastic is hitting the instrument panel. Is this a known problem?

I think I remember reading a bulletin about this - check the bulletin thread in this forum. If you're under warranty, go to see the dealer and they will be able to address it under warranty.

Noise
I get a noise there also. I eventually have to take to the dealer, but mine comes and goes even if the car is not moving. I think mine has to do with the vents but I'm not sure. I wonder if there is a vent opening and closing when the system calls for heat, it definitely sounds like that to me.
Let me know if figure it out and I'll do the same.

The rattle in the back of the door could the center pillar. They had to add felt in a few places. Try to pinpoint the noise as close as possible and the dealer can address it.

I gotta tell you guys - when I got the car second hand, it had a few annoying noises - driver door, left door pillar, the driver seat was making noises - with a few trips to the dealer, they addressed all of the noises and now the car is super quiet. But it helped to isolate closely where the noise is coming from.

Rattle is gone
They took the bottom of the dashboard off and found a torx screw rolling around. They said it would get stuck then after hitting bumps would get loose. Thank God it was driving me nuts.

The acoustics can be very misleading inside our cars... I had a huge rattle in my car a few months after I bought it.. it sounded like a bolt was sliding around inside my dash... I took it in and the technicians could not find anything... Only when I drove it around the block with a tech did he realize that it was actually my sun glasses sliding around inside the drop down compartment near my head... (Red face)

It took 2 dealers...
to find the noise. The first dealership said it was the cigarette lighter rolling around. I had an iphone charger plugged in. I left the dealership with the lighter in my hand and what a surprise the noise was still there. I turned right around went for a ride with the service guy and he tells me it is an acceptable noise. I told him my three previous E class cars never had this. So I pulled over at the exit to the dealership about 500 feet from his desk and asked him to get out and see if he hears any noise outside the car then I drove away.
F- him.

I notice the squeak in the dash and pillar on right. Do you think the dealer will address now that I'm off warranty? I do have non-MB extended and am thinking about pointing these rattles. They are probably so annoying because the car is so increadibly quiet. Double edged sword.
