Anyone planning on retrofitting the 'facelift'?

I for one am. I have done this on many cars - sometimes even replacing LCM's and running new wires. I spend a lot of time in germany for work, so if these lights/mirrors/headlights don't become available in the US soon, I might have some extra carry-on in May. The hardest part is usually making sure the adaptive features on the headlights are compatible. Other than that the wiring and circuitry inside these assemblies could not be more logical. Have you seen the inside of your taillights? So simple it would make you laugh...

Maybe so, but have you seen behind the back seat and under the floorboards and under the dash??? It's so complex it'll make you cry

Haha, yeah I've been all through the trunk, behind the back seat, a little under the hood and some nonsense under the dash. You're spot on, it does make me want to cry. Something as simple as wiring up Brabus side skirt LED's becomes more complex than an engine overhaul on a civic.

I hate the look of the LED's. Looks kind of Japanese to me.

Yes, thinking of it; especially the taillights. Leds are a fad like the internet, it won't last.

I live in Irvine and will be back in Germany in two weeks. Want me to email you if I can find the taillights? My plan is to pick some up in Munich.

Ok, I did some homework and called a Mercedes dealer in Hamburg because that is my first stop. They can get the new LED taillights and they will cost €290 per side - it takes 2 days for them to get to the dealer once the order is placed.

You can call to verify this if you like - extremely helpful people, but they do not speak English.

OK poser question? If you make your 2008 look like a 2010 isn't that the same as making your 2008 look like a S65?

That depends on how caught up you are on other people's opionions on what you do with your money/car.

I am almost fed up with this close minded board. Nothing but slack every time something slightly askew form OEM spec is mentioned. Not my crowd.

But to answer your question - no. Changing taillights will make my car look like a 2007 with 2010 taillights.

How much are they in the US? Would it be better to wait until they arrive here in the US?

I agree with you on the poser BS. Its my car and if I want to put ZR1 stickers on it that is my business, but some of the guys on this board are really **** when it comes to mod's. I'm not one of them, just seeing if any of them would chime in and say this is a poser move?

No, the questions about this sort of thing are more along the lines of why? As in what's the point. This is a large, four door car. Why not just buy a Corvette pr something? It is much easier than doing this to a S550.

No. I personally don't consider things like that posing.
If you went around telling people you had a 2010, then yes it would be posing. I also think it's NOT posing when people put on AMG brakes, etc, but if they put on the badges indicating it's an AMG when it isn't, that is posing.

Why exactly are you even on this message board, can't the Messiah, aka dealership, command you in the holy ways of OEM spec?

For a number of reasons.

As to your main point, feel free to change the car as you wish. After all it is your car. The point is this is a silly car to be changing in this way.

Doubt it.

LED's are here to stay. Acutally GM/ Cadillac was the first auto co. to use LED technology. If you remember, the DeVille and later the Escalade had those ultra bright tail lights that looked super bright...

Here is an interesting article

Great article, thanks for sharing.

You guys are nuts for thinking that LEDs are a "fad" and will be phased out... LEDs are the upgrade from stone age to 2009. If you haven't noticed more and more cars use them in the rear lights, because they are brighter, faster and consume a lot less power than regular bulbs. LEDs are here to stay, and they just started making their way to the front of the car... give it a year or two and you'll see.
