ABOUT TO BUY 2007 S550 - NEED ADVICE

Hello guys. I'm about to purchase a 2007 S550 any support or advice would definitely be appreciated. The car is located at MB Bedford, TX.

Car info:
Price: $45,900
Vin: WDDNG71X67A075480
Miles: 59,500
Warranty: None
Car Fax: 1 owner no accidents listed, non-smoker
Exterior: Flint Grey
Interior: Black
Package: P1
Extras: 19" wheels with new tires, Wood Wheel, Push Button Start, Rear Shade. They will give me the bluetooth attachment as well.

Recently serviced per salesman prior to putting on used car lot. I owned a 2000 S430 before and this new body style is georgous. Trading in my 2004 LS430.

Thanks,
Ernie

Look at it - the same price, but 13K miles :
http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/mer...z&distance=100

A little more, but with warranty :
http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/mer...z&distance=100

I wouldn't buy a car for this price with high miles and no warranty even for one day. There are plenty of cars on a market with factory original waranty. Check yahoo auto.

you cant just throw in a CPO warranty. There is an actual process the car has to go though to get CPO status.

Thanks for the replies. I will ask for a one year CPO. The sales has informed me numerous times it was a bad Septermber and October for sales. Any other advice?

Looks nice, but it's too expensive for the car with 59K miles and no carfax history. I mean, there is carfax, but it only says it was bought and inspected. Where is the service records for the car ?
Here is the car, which cost the same, but has 30K less miles and factory warranty another almost 2 years :
http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/mer...nz&distance=50

but, it's your money - you decide ...

Thanks aeg! I have my 04 LS430 as a trade so purchasing out of state presents an issue. I will continue to look around locally or within a 300 mile raduis.

I understood you have a trade. I gave you that example just to show it's not a problem to find the car with less mileage and factory warranty for the same money. I'm on the same boat, but will buy couple months later.

Good luck to you.

With your trade variable, we really need to know more details as to whether you are getting a good deal. Specifically, if the dealer is giving you a great deal on your trade (which is doubtful) then maybe not a bad price for the S550. If only giving you normal trade-in value, then I agree you could probably find a better car for the same money.

Personally, I like the car posted by aeggroup which is located in Greenwich, CT. Seems like you'd be getting more car for not that much more money. If they would match the price on your trade, I would probably go that route.

I would always try to sell my car by myself and not to use it as a trade in.
Dealers always trying to screw you.
This is the nature of their business ( nothing wrong with that ).
They wanna make money for themselves - not for you )

for 8-10k more you can get a S600 O7. I would say that's a much better deal and the 550 is over priced. Look around there are hundreds out there.

I think $52K-#$53K.
Look..may be I'm too greedy, but here is my logic :
All cars they selling are 3 years old. The most cars were sold from April to October of 2006. The selling prices when those cars were brand new were about $90K-$95K. All cars in USA, and MB is no exception lose 50% value after first three years. 95 divide by two will be almost 48 and adding $5K for CPO become $53K. So, the price for CPO must not be more than $53K-$54K. If you pay more - it's your personal preference and loving of that specific car.
I know it prob sounds silly, but it's my logic when I choose it.
If the car is younger than 3 years – price is higher.

There's typically a reason why a $150k car's resale value is just $65k after less than 3 years. If one is shopping for a used S550, I don't think it's very wise to stretch "just a little bit" to simply get into an S600 that's almost out of warranty.

Having said that, there're definitely quite a few nice '07 S550s out there. However, CPO and relatively low miles are a must.

Ernie,

Park Place is a great dealership to do business with; I have purchased many vehicles from them, and have been extremely pleased with them. Yes sometimes their cars are more expensive than other dealerships, but it well worth with it with the customer service they provide. You had mention that it was a P1 car when in fact it is a P2 after looking at the link you had posted, so that ads value to the car, and you also mentioned that they said they would give you a Bluetooth Puck, which is very costly; I know that when I got mine I paid close to $500. If your salesman showed you all the service records and it was all done at the dealership you should be very comfortable with buying it from them. I have found it pays off to spend more money at the start and get it from a Mercedes Dealership, then save money on the purchase price and spend more having to fix everything. I have had several friends buy cars from out of sate and find out that cars had rust on the undercarriage. Like you said you also have to consider the fact that you are trading in a car, which means you need something that is local, and there is no better place to by then from a Mercedes Benz Dealership.

confused? not a huge amount of $ to get in a much better overall car.
both cars will soon be out of warranty. in 3 years the 600 will be worth 15k more so it's money well spent. you see 10x more 550's for sale than 600's. i was in the same boat.

The condition of such a discounted S600 will be significantly worse than the S550 at $8k less; I wouldn't say it's necessarily a better overall car.

Once the S600 is out of warranty, the repairs will be significantly more expensive. Since S600 generally depreciates faster than S550 (hence the price difference of about $50k between the brand new S550 and S600 shrinks to ~$8-10k after 3 years), I very much doubt that the S600 would suddenly be $15k more expensive than an S550 after 6 years, especially with the new models out. The fact that there're more S550s for sale than S600s means absolutely nothing in terms of depreciation since more S550s were sold in the first place. Who buys a 6 year old S600 anyway?

I have to agree with you. The bigger engine, the faster depreciation you get. Or at least in Europe this is 100%.

By the time you will be thinking of selling your car, there may be totally different market (hybrids etc.) but one thing is sure, S600 will be priced lower than S550.

Get CPO warranty for at least two another years if you can. It will repay itself 10 times

huh? the condition of s600's are the same as the 07 550's. not sure what you are getting at. the 600 is a much better car... drive one and you'll see for yourself. best bang for the buck going.

A $55k S550 will be in a significantly better condition than a $65k S600. Once again, the cost of ownership must account for future repairs.

Having owned a 1998 Brabus S7.3, I will stick with an S550. Not everyone wants or needs an S600. It's quite sad that every thread for buying advice on an S550 always end with recommending an S600 which you can supposedly buy at a similar price. Buying a used S550 is already a bit of a gamble in my opinion, but buying a used S600 on a limited budget is just plain insanity.

It looks good, it still has original warranty. It would be great to see carfax to know when this warranty expires, but I guess it should be at least till September of 2010. Earlier models had a satellite antenna on the trunk. This one does not have it.
You may negotiate the price with those guys. My MB dealer told me, wherever you buy your used car check the VIN with him to see if this car is eligible for MB extended warranty. I think this is good advice. You may not need it, but if you bought it and during first $5K miles from 45K to 50K you got some problems - you always can spend another $3K and buy extended warranty for 3 years.
BTW, what makes you think to buy MB after Lexus ? Everybody keeps saying LS is very nice and reliable car. I did test drive of LS460 and didn't like it, but I'm driving BMW and MB for last 10 years and it's hard to change to boatlike LS.

Good luck. Both are great cars.
