2007 S550
got a couple of ?'s, help would be appreciated

I've been searching for S550's for quite some time (still waiting for my lease to be up for my current ride). Two questions

1) If it's possible, how much would it be around to add wood on the steering wheel? Also, if there's no wood on the steering wheel does it mean its the lowest of the low base models?

2) How much would an exteded warranty go for a 2007 s550 with miles ranging from 35 - 50k on the car?

Thanks in advance

The extended warranty should be in the $3500 range give or take years and mileage. Wood wheels were a stand alone option on post cars so they are not always present. It can be added, I don't know the cost...

For what it's worth, I'm not a huge fan of my wood wheel and long for the all leather one in my E500.

I think you can buy a wood wheel for around 700 ish dollars. Labor would at a guess be 100-200 to install.

My understanding is on the S550's the wood wheel is not part of any trim package and has to be ordered separately. My 2007 S550 has P2 and AMG but the wheel was its own line item on the car. MY poin tis that on that car the steering wheel doesn't indicate anything else about trim/option levels.

Not sure if this translates to the 600/63/65 so take it for what its worth.

And to epasc's point - I truly love the look of the wood wheel but vastly prefer the feel of the all leather. (I have one of each in two different cars)

Not to be too off topic, but the wood wheel is very smooth, but not very true and round. Hence it feels "bumpy" when it moves through your hand. It's the least precise thing about the S550 driving experience. Also, my wedding band clicks and scrapes against it - also annoying.

Maybe you have an aftermarket wheel, since the stock one is definitely round.

OT: Does the all leather wheel with heated option heat the whole rim? On my CL600 it only heats the leather part and on my GL350 I was unable to get both the wood/leather wheel AND the heating option.

Nope. Brand new 2010. It's pretty round, but a bit off. And the wood toroid is definitely not a constant diameter, hence the lumps.

Maybe an aftermarket wheel would be better...

Same here and no problems; actually, much prefer this one to the all-leather one on the 750 (they had no wood/leather option back in 2006), and definitely much better than the wood/leather on the old STS. Just different tastes, I guess.

On the pre-facelift models, getting the wood wheel was the only way to get a fully leather wrapped wheel. IMO, the non wood wheel with the vinyl-y type wheel looked cheap.

Not here, my wheel is perfectly round and feels great! I personally don't like the feeling of the all leather wheel and the look of the wood is much nicer.

dbtk- only the leather part heats up on any of the MB wheels...

with labor its just under $1000.00. However, if your getting your service done, they will most likely do it labor free.... doesn't hurt to ask
