Reliability of 2007's

Just wanting to hear some input from owners on 2007 S550's.

More reliable than the w220's?

I am looking at a few with lower miles out of warranty. I have owned Range Rovers out of warranty so I know what unreliable is lol.

Depends.

Is it more reliable than a 2006 220? Probably not (probably similar actually).

Is it more reliable than a 2000 220? yes.

Seems the 221s are pretty solid with the exception of some typical MB electrics issues.

the 7 speed 722.9 transmission has been having issues with valve bodys and control units , motor mounts failing fairly early, suspension vibration issues are becoming popular. hope this helps, goodluck

How is it that the inventor of the automobile, Mercedes-Benz, can't get the damn motor mounts right? I've never even heard of motor mounts failing on anything other than a Mercedes.

Also, the 7G seems to be a tranny that M-B has yet to perfect. Actually, it's near flawless on my 2010 E-Class, but it was a complete unrefined mess on my '06 E. Even after the Valve Body replacement, it wasn't perfect.

In 80,000 miles my 2007 S550 has had a transmission valve body replaced. Nothing else of significance.

i agree k-a , such an engineered machine and motor mounts are an issue, the 722.6 5 speed was a pretty solid transmission , thats why w220/221 s600's have the 5 speeds in them. the 7 speed cant handle the v12's. i think i read somewhere the 2011 or 2012 v12's are getting a diff trans... lets hope they hold up. the s550 has been a solid car , but these few issues with the trans and mounts are becoming popular, also some 07's have the balance shaft and timing chain sprocket issue....thats a killer job if out of warranty

K-A you absolutely right, Almost all mercedes vehicle seem to have a motor mount problem after 25k miles...

I had a problem with my transmission valve body (they described it as sticking valve) at about 19000 miles on my 07 S550. The charges were $1530 for the repair. I have not heard about balance shaft or timing chain sproket issues. Anyone with those issues like to chime in on what the repair ran them?

here is a link for engine timing chain and sprocket issue http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w221...-problems.html
