Ok, tackling my first oil change and I have stumbled upon a problem. It seems the oil filter housing cap is on incredibly tight.

It is threaded normally right? No reverse threads?

Righty tighty, lefty loosey man. No its not reversed. If you can't get it, double some cloth and use a pair of pliers and slowly turn. First oil change and the cap is a challenge, your in for a treat.

Finally had to go get a strap style filter remover to break it loose. That thing was on crazy tight.

Also, I noticed my replacement filter came with 5 o-rings. I could only find three to replace: the big one on the threads and the two at the end. Where are the other two?

Finally, it took every bit of 8 quarts and looks like it could still take another 1/2 quart. Suggestions on whether I put the oil level in the middle of the oil stick indicator or should I get it as close to max as I can?

In doing an oil change I always,initially,bring it up to about 1/2 quart of capacity,then run the engine for awhile,shut it down,check the dipstick and carefully bring it up to capacity according to the dipstick.

But that's just me I guess.

Not just you but it's what I do as well. Running the engine will send oil throughout the motor and should decrease from the filler mark. Add more to actually "top" off the engine with oil.
