Crackling Noises from Underneith the Car

I have a 2007 S550 with around 50k miles on it that I bought a few months ago. The car runs great but after I park the car and shut it off, I can hear loud crackling noises from the underbelly of the car. I've heard this can be just water dripping onto the hot pipes but its still concerning me. Anyone else have this issue?

That's your exhaust cooling and metal contracting. Normal on any car. Just some cars you can hear it more than others specialy with big engines.

I have the same crackling noises...dealer couldn't find anything so I guess it's normal.

I had this first time ever today and my guess its the condensation from the aircon dripping onto the hot exhaust ,if you listen carefully you can hear the waterbubbles popping.First time its relatively warm here and my car was parked slightly on a slope.

+1. The sounds are normal, nothing to worry about.

its the catalytic converter, normal, no need to worry, by the way just to be sure is the sound dominant on the front section of the under body or the mid or rear?
