What would you recommend

I am currently in the market for a '08, '09 or 10 S-550 4matic with roughly 30-40k miles. I'm looking for some advice on what year to target and/or any specific options, packages that people are extremely happy or unhappy with. I drove an '08 yesterday and it was a nice upgrade from my previous S.

My '03 S-430 4matic was just totaled due to the air bags being deployed in a minor accident. Couldn't believe the cost to replace airbags but was very happy there were no injuries in the accident. I was very happy with that vehicle as my daily driver putting 20k + miles on it a year.

Any advice is appreciated

Myself, I'd try to find another low mileage W220. I "upgraded" to a 2010 S550 recently after owning an 06 S550 and 04 S430. The S550 is a nice enough car but unlike my 220's I have zero emotional connection to it. I prefer the ride and the seats in the 220. The 220's audio system is much better, and I like having an actual mechanical gear selector on the center console.

The 221 does get you updated styling, especially 2010+ and they're great looking cars especially with the AMG package and 20" wheels. The tech is better, especially the navi display. The 2010+ have an SD card slot, a CD/DVD changer that plays MP3 files from disc, and an onboard HD based music register and IPod integration but the stock audio sounds so thin I don't use any of it.

221 with the active multi contour seats are nice. Heated and ventilated are standard. The massage functions are more elaborate than the basic "pulse" feature on the 220. I found the 220's seats to more comfortable overall.

As far as the 221, I'd want the multi contour seats, the AMG sport appearance package, Parktronic and rear view camera. Pano roof (especially on a light colored car). Some can be found with ABC which is nice. Nightview is a gimmick. Split view is cool though I'm not sure how much use it would get. And of course an extended CPO or good aftermarket warranty.
Reliability seems to be about the same...lousy for both generations. My 2010 is in the shop now for a bad AC blower motor and a cam seal leak...so a warranty is a must.

s550 4matic Key To The Cure Edition, Can-Am Spyder RSS
Depends on the deal & the options... I traded my 07 CPO for a 4matic a few weeks ago. I went to my local dealer to strike a deal for a 2010 CPO with night vision, split view, keyless go.... & about 32k miles.

When I get there, I noticed they also had a 2009 CPO "Key to the Cure" edition. Same price as the 2010, same Mileage..
AMG Sport package, 2 tone interior, 20" AMG 5 spoke wheels, Parktronic, Massage seats, Keyless Go, Rear view cam.... I stood there for about 2 hours trying to decide which one to get. Which was the better deal? Which would be worth more when I decide to upgrade? Which was a better fit for me?

Bottom line... I couldn't resist the Key to the Cure.... AMG Sport package & the 2 tone interior sealed the deal for me. Also love the back-up cam. Everything else was icing on the cake.

Good luck on your search. I'm sure you'll make a good choice. Go with what fits your style.
