Telematics update - anyone in Toronto had it done??
I have a W221 with the original Telematics (Comand) firmware. I'd like to get it updated to the latest version with birds' eye view etc.
Went to the MB dealership in Oakville. They plugged the car in for an hour, then gave it back to me (after charging me an hour of labour!) with a work order saying "tried to update telematics - didn't work - problem with COMAND system - requires replacement" or something like that.
They showed me a $7k quote for a new COMAND, said "you probably don't want to bother with that" and then made me pay the hour labour "for our time investigating this"
I am 99.9% sure the tech wasn't familiar with this update and hasn't done it before. I have run a full diagnosis with my DAS system and the COMAND in my car has no errors. It also operates 100% without any issues (so I know the hard drive is working, etc.)
Has anyone in the GTA had this done? I'm willing to drive further if necessary (Buffalo, Detroit) but thought there are so many dealers in Toronto that it would be good if one has done it before.
I don't want to drop another $150 just to find out they think it can't be done.
If I can't get it done around here, I'll start investigating Buffalo/Detroit (but I don't want to waste a day going all the way there and getting it done...).
Last resort is that I have a Telematics update DVD from MB (it's a copy) and two different DAS versions. Newest one seems to want to go online for updates, but I'm pretty sure the old one will ask me to insert the DVD and it'll do the update.
I know there are issues with the backup cam and A/C not working after the update, but I know how to correct those.
alternatively, go search this forums site under the w212 E550 hidden features....you may be suprized. I was.
