Newbie Just purchased a 2010 S550

Just traded my 2011 BMW750ix for a 2010 Capri blue/tan S550 4Matic with 65k miles. Other than the front pads being contaminated(which the dealer will address) everything else is in excellent condition. I check most of the common things one looks at when buying a car but figured I would check in with the forum for some help. Is there anything I should look for in particular with these cars? This is my first S550 4Matic. I did have a 2010 CLS550 that I should have never sold but that's another story. I did notice the CLS accelerated faster but I attribute that to the fact it was RWD and the extra mass of the AWD uses more power. Any help is always welcome.

Congrats on your purchase of the S. Can you provide some input between the 7 and S?

Thank you. Here is what I know about my 750ix. Nice car to look at, quick very quick for its size, handles well for its size. Now for some of the bad things. BMW is having all kinds of problems with their 750,s with the N63 engine 4.4 twin turbo. My engine burns 1 qt of oil every 1200 miles. BMW says normal. They have a recall in effect 750,s 2009-2012 called a CCP or customer care package(they had my car for 72 days) replacing all kinds of things. When I got it back the alignment was off, ran bad, burned oil. BMW says normal. The dealers never have enough loaners. Let me say this, there are 750,s out there that run right and ride right and their customers love them. Not mine and if you do a search you will find a lot of dissatisfied 750 owners. I understand the 2013 up with the improved engine is better but beware. This is my second BMW in a row and both burned tons of oil and both were twin turbo(2011 335i, 2011 750ix). Terrible service, terrible cars. That's my experience with the seven and BMW in general. I will never go back. I will never buy another BMW. That is why I am going back to Mercedes. I should have never left. Lesson learned. Hope that helps with some insight.

Yeah the CLS is actually based on the much smaller and lighter E class so with the same 5.5 liter engine as the S it's got a lot more "go".

So am I to understand there is no weak points in this year and model to specifically look at to make sure its not close to failing?

Ha! No, there are weak points throughout the entire line regardless of year. Too numerous (and depressing) to list. None of them have a maintenance schedule or inspection requirement. They'll just crap out when they're ready to go. Your best bet is either a warranty or deep pockets. (I guess technically the best bet would be to ask before you buy the car.)

Cant be much worse than whatever you ran into with the BMW though.

Welcome to the forum and good luck!
