Well after getting my car 3 months ago, the warranty company has shelled or 9k in repairs, while I have spent $800 and the transmission was replaced right before I got it so that was another 9k before I got it. Of course, it's a new month now and I get the check engine light for one cylinder misfiring. It seems like a problem every 5-6 weeks for me. Good luck fella! Ensure you get a extended warranty as mine has already paid for itself.

I bought my 2008 S 4Matic in FEB 2014. No major problems and it has been an everyday driver for me. Interstate riding and all. Probably put on less than 15,000 miles so far. I got my normal service B $300 and Service A $200 during that period. Full rear brake service $400 after about 2 months of purchase which I already knew about when I purchased. The previous owner had the OEM 19" wheels custom chromed and it has started to corrode and the wheels were leaking (shouldn't be an everybody problem). I have new wheels 19" niche Milan PVD chrome $1400 new tires Michelin AS3 $1400 and new TPMS. That was just specific to my vehicle because of the chrome wheels. I would probably still factor in the cost of a new set of tires though ~$1000-1500. That's at a shop that offers lifetime warranty and you can always drive in and get free balance and alignment. i.e. Firestone etc.
After I had my last alignment I currently have to replace my front left control arm cause it has some wear and tear. Other than that no MAJOR problems. And if you have a extended warranty the suspension part (control arm) is covered. I got the cheap warranty so I have to pay for it but the actual part is cheap. So overall no major problems with me yet and I have had it 18months and 82,000miles. Oh yeah and transmission fluid service $400.
Like I said the wheels and tires cost but that was specific to my circumstances.
I'm about to garage it after the summer and its not going to be my everyday driver anymore.
It's been good to me so I have no complaints. I want to trade by next summer and get a 2010+ w221 white exterior with brown interior panoramic roof etc. I want the new upgrades and the LED look so instead of doing all the facelifts and stuff. I'm not too car shop savvy and don't have time to do all that work on my own and buying the parts is one thing then finding a shop to install the stuff and paying labor on top of the thousands already spent. I'll just trade and upgrade.
There's my humble opinion ....... Good Luck on your buy!

About 8 miles a day is all that typically gets run on the car unless we go on a trip. My E class gets even fewer miles. Now I spend about 20x to 30x that each month with Delta airlines.

I try to document all expenses. The largest expense on this car was from a wall mount vacuum cleaner falling on the front fender. While it was getting repaired I decided to have all blemishes removed (door dings that the sun had to be hitting just right to see, front clip repainted etc.) Other than that, it's mostly maintenance , brakes and tires. I had some tire issues in the beginning because MB alignment was whacked. I do believe that I'm probably not the norm but it's been good to me so far. I know I probably overpaid on a few services but I'm just trying to be honest and show it all. It was a CPO that I purchased an extra year of MB warranty that didn't pay off for me but did offer a piece of mind. This is all expenses since purchasing (June 2011) with almost 90k on the odo....
