Replace Star Hood Ornament With A badge?
Is it possible to swap out the star hood (bonnet) ornament with a hood (bonnet) badge?
I searched here in the W221 forum and found nothing.

Yep, but I'm not sure why you'd do that. I like having the star that is easy to see. It makes seeing the front of your car easier. Plus it looks more regal and befitting of the S-class. The flat badge makes it look like a big C-class.

I think the star emblem ornament is too....old man-ish. At least on a white car. However, there is an upright star emblem on a classic laurels base ornament. But I think the badge is more aggressive...sportier...less ostentatious.

I would like to do the opposite on my 2013 e350 coupe. Can anyone tell me how to do that. One dealer told me it will require body work to make the hole bigger but I don't believe it as my wife had her sedan done with no problem.

From what I've read, you should be able to get a standing star emblem for an S-class and it will fit. It's a 1/4 turn quick connect mechanism that attaches these things. The hood cutout and indentation are a standard across models, I think. Give it a shot. Can't hurt. They badges and emblems are cheap. My badge was only $26 at the stealership.

Yes it's possible I bought mines off amazon... The reason why I replaced mine is because kids keep stealing the star so I put the flat badge on in its place.. It's a direct fit. It takes about 5 mins

My buddy's old man used to have an S-class in the late 80's where kids would always steal the star emblem. After the 3rd or 4th one stolen, he took a grinder and filed the edges to make it razor sharp.
No more stolen emblems after that. He always knew when somebody tried to take it when he'd see some new dried blood on his hood.

According to my Indie there are 2 different siz hood holes for ornaments. I wanted the star on my CLK and he told me the hood had to be drilled out to accommodate a star ornament.

Your indi was right, the OEM star fits a smaller hole than the badge. Bought one form the dealer, and returned it. Completely diff underneath.

Works well in parking in tight spots if you mark the wall where you see thru the Ornament while pulling in. I use those Motion control Lazer lights. works great.

I have the emblem on my 2016 e350 and tried to install the star, The star was too small for my hood hole. Meaning the Emblem uses a bigger hole, and not the same mechanical install directions. The OEM standing star has a smaller hole. Said it again. The trick to getting this one off is to press in on the two sides with the spring in in the middle of those catches. $52 from MB dealer for the standing star. Returned mine. The were nice, as they had my VIN on the order.
