Body kit....the time has come.
So....the time has come for a body kit. I have seen some that I think look really good. Of course, there is the S63 facelift kit which is in the running but I wanted to get your opinion on some of these outside of the box. Also, what about mixing up the kits? Front bumper from one, rear bumper from another, etc?
I am focusing on the body so ignore all of the wheels in the pics. If you have any others, please post. Also, do you recommend fiberglass vs duraflex, poly, etc? I am not concerned about resale value or anything related as I won't be selling this and I am buying another car in the near future...brand is still in the air. Thanks! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...b2a9e9c9e8.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...2665bef87f.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...dc6fb30845.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...a74f8416b3.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...2a28cfc897.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...4b1eddc0f2.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...2c52ef87d2.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...5051f9a82b.jpg |
pretty sure id stick with poly and a s63 kit. Those others also only look good with 22" wheels.
|
I don't see anything that improves over what you have now.
You are running what wheels now? OEM? |
Anything above the AMG bumper/side skirt kit starts looking tacky IMHO.
Those should also be easy/reasonable to source. Maybe an aftermarket front bumper with DRL's (a la MEC). Plus the other kits require body work (good body shop) and a lot of time/money to fit the parts correctly. Plus special wheels and big wheel spacers. The ride will suffer over what you have... |
Yeah, the only kit I'm aware of that both looks good in pictures AND has a track record of successful, non nightmarish installs is the S63 clone kit sold on the forum by gary@suvneer. Stay clear of Duraflex and fiberglass for the reasons Wolfman mentioned.

I have been eyeing the prior design one forever! I just dont wanna sink 10k on a body kit that isn't even installed yet. However, they do have the same kit it seems on eBay. Personally, if I get the prior design one, I would drive Illinois to have them install it.

Someone on here just got it...waiting to see it completed.

I used to see a lot of SL BS conversions in the R230 AMG forums and they are very involved and take a lot of money and patience to get right. And there is at least a real AMG version to model the kits after. On the S-class, it's a fiberglass fantasy... |
Nothing wrong with mixing kits to achieve your vision. Although I'm sure you'll get a lot of people trying to dissuade you from doing so because the S is by nature the definition of luxury and not the DTM race car a lot of kits try to make the vehicle into, but you're doing it to put a smile on your face, not someone else. I was in the same boat as you with my 7 series, but opted to throw on the Prior kit. I've got some contacts at Prior I can put you in touch with and see if you can work out a deal on. Let me know :y
That said, S63 facelift is sex. :D |
To OP...Ypur car is very nice and clean. Get the regular s63 bodykit. All others are a just too busy and too extra.
keep it nice and simple with the s63 kit |
Agree with the rest of the responses. You might as well put a Lexus spindle grill and F Sport badge on the car if you want to do those mods in the photo.
|
Thanks for your opinions. :naughty:
|
all those pictures seem like down grades to such a car........all those kits are just to gawdy......not really on par with an MB IMO
|
I do like the hood on the Prior. That with the S63 kit and more aggressive wheels would look good.

Yes, that hood has a very aggressive look. I think that is what really caught my eye. The hood with the S63 kit and new wheels. Sounds like a plan...we'll see.
|
That hood is 990 but it's in poland...I hate international orders...I'm going to see if I can find it in the US.
|
|
That hood would make your car look like a GTO.

I think your nuts bro. Your car is gorgeous and tastefully done with subtle appointments that make it stand out without being obnoxious. The above kits look like you should be wearing your pants down to your knees and employment is legally questionable...If you go this route be prepared to get pulled over often as cops will assume this too. Real talk
