Dealer that can perform COMMAND firmware update
I'm in the San Jose area and need a recommendation for a dealer that is capable of performing the firmware update on my S63 that will enable birdseye map view and traffic on the navigation screen.
I already tried one at a dealer in walnut creek, and had no luck. They only sold me a navigation disc. |
Looking in Florida too
IF anyone knows of a dealer in central Florida, I'd like to get the update too
|
I believe the command firmware updates are part of the Nav update disks. On n other words inserting a newer version of a Nav disk will update the firmware

The firmware update is completely separate and done with the Mercedes star computer. I have the latest navigation disc, and do not have the traffic or birdseye views. |
That is right. When I went through the pain of going to like every dealer in the area only te last one knew what they were doing. They all tried to sell me the dvd to update my navigation and not the actual comand itself...and they all said it was too risky, except the 4th one who was in the know about everything and they just charged me an hour of labor.

Ah. You are asking about the firmware of the head unit. Yes, that is done via star/ das. There is also an alternative offline method with an update disk (not a Nav update one). However most dealers will shy away from doing it as it has a fairly high rate of bricking the head unit and then the dealer is on the hook for the replacement. The official posture is not to update if the unit doesn't exhibit freezes/ reboots.
Traffic also requires traffic- specific sirius subscription. |

Traffic also requires traffic- specific sirius subscription. Correct. They had to put on their service order that customer states it is freezing because they can't just update it with out reason. |

Is there a copy of the TSB explaining the procedure that I could bring in? Thanks |

That's good to know. The traffic function in my '08 is rudimentary (no fancy graphics etc.) but functional. The unit tells you the local traffic condition and it's up to you to find the work around.
|
So now they have found a loop hole to require us the purchase Sirius as a functional way to promote the service. Gee, thanks MB:word:

NTG3 Telematics CD part # 2218270665 strongly suggest using in conjunction with DAS.
|
IIRC that is the only way possible. I updated mine and it was "fussy" with my DAS setup but it went through. Had to laugh at this because just yesterday I was plowing through my random download folder to clean up things and spotted the iso image for the updated telematics and it brought back memories.

Are you clear on what is required? Navigation map updates are basically inserting a disc and it will take a while for it to update.
The Telematics update requires a DAS system. |

Yeah, that is the wrong part number.
|
Search “2218270665” to comparison shop upon which you will find 221827066526 is the current part #.

Sorry, I stand corrected.
Telematics iso image i have is labeled 221 827 00 65. Someone fat fingered it I'm sure. |
