What's exactly behind option 595 please ?
Hi,
Just joined the forum and I already have one question for you : I'm looking for a V8 W221 and I definitively want to have it with the optional laminated double side glazing, which is known to reduce both inside temperature and noise. On the W220 the option code was 596. Apparently this code is not valid for the W221. Can some one confirm that the equivalent is 595 for the W221 model ?
I read an older post on this forum stating that 595 was a "regular" glass but that is not the case, from what I understand.
Thanks a lot in avance as this option is a must for my next car (I'm pretty picky about noise inside my cars).

Hi,
In the EU such was supposed to be the case for the V8s on the W220. But I came accross some models that didn't have the laminated glass fitted ! That's why I'm trying to Xcheck here the W221 case...

595 = heat insulating + IR reflecting safety glass side & rear
596 = heat insulating + IR reflecting safety glass all around
885 = highten theft protection (interior motion sensor n/a MBUSA)
Z17 = heated windshield
Z07 = reinforcement on special protection version
As mentioned 595/596 is standard and provides temperature & noise reduction.

Thanks Dave but 596 isn't mentionned on mercedesmedic
Konigstiger, thanks and that's another definition. When you mention safety glass, do you mean laminated (double panes) ?
To put it from another (practical) perspective, can you see the thin seal between the two glass panes on the edge of the window, such as was the case on an older W220.
Thanks !

You asked about 595, which is defined in the list. Safety glass means that the class won't have any big sharp edges if broken so you won't receive any major gashes if your head or another part of your body break it. It also aids in keeping the driver or passenger in the car in a head-on collision as the glass has some "give" to it. The 2 panels of glass are fused together and it's impossible to tell that there are 2 panes when looking through it. If you open the window part way and look at the top edge of the glass, you'll see that there are 2 panes of glass as they don't usually perfectly align.

You are right Dave, I focused at first on 595 which is listed on a car I'm targeting. After more research, it seems that both 596 and 595 are indeed double glazed and that the only difference is that 595 is rear + sides when 596 is all around (although I wonder what it really means as the windscreen is always a double pane and is usually the first piece of glass to be IR treated on a car )
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi,
I finally got the answer I think : 595 on a W221 equals to 596 on a W220. Both are laminated / double pane and includes side and rear windows. Why make it simple
