2013 W221 951 brake question

Hi,

I just finished front and rear brakes on my '13 S550 (39025 miles). I used OEM rotors and pads in front, OEM rotors on rear but with Brembo pads. Everything went great except for the front pads - in emergency mode had to pick up (Jurid) pads to get the car off of the jack stands.

Here's my question - what differences in brake parts (if any) do 951 Sport package cars have from 'standard', non 951's?

I ordered parts from an Arizona based Euro parts supplier I've used for years. The rotors I took off of the front were identical to the ones that went back on (cross drilled 350mm X 32mm) but the pads (#007 420 69 20) were too deep and wrong for my caliper. The pads I ended up installing are described as 004 420 80 20 and supposedly for the standard, or non 951 car.

I thought the calipers and rotors were different on the 951 cars. Thanks for any input.

Mike

Thx Konig - looks like the parts supplier is incorrect in selling 0074206920 as the pads for a 951. And my front rotors had a pick tag on them fromMBZ of Chandler, AZ...the number is slightly different than what's prescribed in the info you provided but probably more of a 'dot rev' than a different part (I installed 221 421 11 12).

Thanks for all replies.this leaves me with another question, maybe more suited for another thread.

I want to use winter tires mounted on separate rims and would very much like to use 17" wheels (vs 18s). Tire Rack has such a beast but told me the 17" wheel won't fit my 951 Sport Package car because the 'brakes are larger'. The calipers appear to be the same, however, for the standard 4matic and the 951 equipped car...I'll ping them again.

2214211612 is current part, replaces 2214211112 depending on supplier they will exhaust stock of old parts.

You should 100% go with the akebono pads. NO DUST at all. Not even after 1 tank of gas worth of driving!

If you need them, I can get them for you also.

Thx Jason. I have Akebono's on my '99 SL500 (which is a pleasure/summer car doing about 2k miles per year). I agree, very little dust.
