It's very cool, and I remember this feature being on S classes since the 80's I think.

The question is, if you turn the temp higher just before you turn the car off, will it make it even hotter?

regiment1 12-05-2016 02:32 PM

I use it almost every day. But I think it only gently re-circulates the warm air already in the system, so changing the climate settings just before shutdown wouldn't make it warmer.

Jason B 12-05-2016 02:45 PM

Cool. I love it, also for a small 6 lb Pomeranian, it kept the car at 70 inside when it was 40 deg outside for 40 min.

JDowney 12-05-2016 02:54 PM

How do you initiate/turn on the REST option? Thanks.

Jeff

Just press the button after you turn off the car.

JDowney 12-05-2016 03:46 PM

Thank you, I will give it a try...

cm3485 12-05-2016 05:45 PM

Works like a champ!!!Used it few winters ago....

Bluemax 12-05-2016 08:51 PM

Also works in the summer with the a\c system.

BenzV12 12-06-2016 02:37 AM

Yes, that's a cool feature for summer to cool the things down ;)

Through the period of time i owned 2 W221s, The REST feature was hands down one of the features i appreciated the most. Even over Night Vision.

Jason B 12-07-2016 10:03 PM

It blows my mind that this feature has been around, at least since 1986.

No, at least in a W140 (then I would expect the same in W221), its
circulating the coolant trough the heater by a separate
electric pump. So, rest-warmth of coolant will be used, not just the air.

IMO, night vision is nothing but a gimmicky feature that takes your eyes off the road. If it were part of a heads-up system, it would be more effective.

Dave, you just made me feel better about not having it. You always want what you don't have, but I'll tell you, no car even had the option when I looked. Also, I never hear anyone raving saying it's a must have item.

I also wanted a heated steering wheel, but then came to find out only the leather portion is heated, and I never grab that area when I drive, just the wood.... Wood is good. :)

I understand what you mean. My 600 has every single feature available on a 221 from 2007, but I guess I take things for granted. Much of the stuff I never even touch or even think about being different from a base 550, such as the reclining and massaging rear seats, power sunshades, rear climate control, premium leather seating, leather dash, doors, alcantera headliner, power rear headrests, etc. But I definitely appreciate the heated steering wheel in very cold weather. I don't drive with gloves, so I really don't mind putting my hands at 9 and 3 on the steering wheel to warm my hands up. IMO, it's a must have on these cars that are driven in cold climates.

Not sure when it started, but I had a 1987 560SEL that did not have it. My 2002 E320 did, so somewhere between there I would imagine

MB_Chris 12-15-2016 11:36 AM

All the time in winter. It's really convenient especially when going into a store for a quick stop or even waiting outside a friends house compared to idling. My BMW has this feature too but I feel like the REST in the S is much more effective.

W140 from 1991 could be had with it.

Ok so never actually used the rest feature until the other day when it was 20 out. ran to pick up my daughter from school hit the button. 10 mins later car was still warm which was awesome! I had this feature in 2 7 series and never used it. I do miss the steering wheel warmer which was always in use on the cold days.

Manofsteelpt 12-22-2016 09:22 PM

How long does this "rest" feature work for?

Jason B 12-22-2016 09:29 PM

That's a good question. Not sure. But I was in a restaurant for an hour and it was 33° out and the car was toasty still when I came back.

Manofsteelpt 12-22-2016 09:33 PM

What a great feature... I'll be using it daily w the sub freezing temps here in Buffalo.
