Low beam fix 2012 221
Last week I found a very smart tech. Explained to him my night time low beam short distance concern. Long story short. Fixed!
Each headlight body has a single top side hex adjustment screw. Visable access easy. As explained to me, at 10' from a wall, low beam should be 36" above GL. Easy to measure. I was 27". Counterclockwise raises the light. Test drive tonight.
No STAR needed.

I also found this and have now adjusted my low beam.
But problem is it seems the main beam - which was approximately ok before the adjustment - is now way to high, almost in the treetops.
So i wonder, is it possible to tune the main beam down electronically via STAR ?

Good question. I don't know.
For me, the correct low beam adjustment was my primary goal. Elevated high beam actually helps spot wildlife at night on country roads. However, I keep the automatic dimmer engaged.

As requested. 6mm hex Allen. Long. Short will not reach. Easy access both sides.

Oh, I notice now when you first start the car, you can see the glass fish eye low beam move. I guess this is normal when it does it's leveling thing?

Very cool! Thanks. So you are now are 36" above ground level? Thanks, can't wait to try this. Also, I think most cars have the driver side low beam slightly lower than pass.

I adjusted to 36" and experimented from there.

Close-up of the allen caphead adjuster
This shows the direction of adjustment.
Down - Clockwise
Up - Counterclockwise
Thank you Donnymac for post. With your photos of the adjustment hole location I can see so much better at night time.
I would lke to add that on my 2011 S550 the caphead hex is a 6mm allen.
