Have someone pull fault codes using MB DAS, motor/shaft “may” need replacement best case scenario may simply need to normalized (taught in) using MB DAS.

Is it all the way up? If you move the switch do you hear any attempt to move at all?
They regularly jam in the top position, usually you can hit the steering wheel with your hand downward while actuating the switch and it will release. There are software updates for the older cars so they don't stick so tight at the top of the adjustment.
The motors do also fail, we replace them all the time under warranty.

Had the problem on my '14 ML350. Dealer "fixed" it but it happened again. I posted here about the problem and got this response. Now it's working again.

You have water getting somewhere it isn't supposed to if that's the case. I'd avoid that carwash until you find the source of the leak, or it can get very expensive, very fast.

I'm curious why the entire column needs to be replaced. Is the original unit prone to failure?

No idea serves me right for buying an over priced short warty thru benz. They said they changed the motor and column still doesnt move, so nxt step is the whole column? Im sure my indy would have fixed it in 1 hour... w no parts needed. Now I have to fight w benz no way im paying 3k to fix that. ill trade the car and eat the 3 that way.
