Looking for a drop top, thinking BMW 650i

I have a 2012 S550 4matic but I want something a little sportier and with a drop top. Looking at either a BMW M6 or 650i. Probably will give the S to the wife. Wish I could justify the cost of the new S550 cab but they are obnoxiously expensive and the M6 is a beast. Anyone know if the BMW products are as bad as the Mercedes brand on reliability and cost of ownership.

Well, test drove an M6 convertible yesterday and it is indeed a beast. Goes like a raped ape but it was a bit of a step down from my S from a quality of materials standpoint. It was more like driving a race car, but the racerboy exhaust got old after about 5 minutes. Probably going to look at something else.

2016 C300
I have a 330i vert as a rental for a couple of weeks. Very nice little car, drives beautifully and handles well. Good audio (much better than the HK in the 221). Interior design and materials are a step down from my C300 but in every other respect I'd prefer the Bimmer.

The 650i is my dream vert, but coming from a 221 you'd want the standard suspension and 19" wheels. Nothing rides like an S, and the 6 is based on the mid sized 5, not the big 7, but even the 7 all luxed out doesn't ride like an S. Only the 222 Cabrio does.

You have to sort of disregard the S as a benchmark and enjoy the 6 for what it is: a reasonably refined vert by BMW standards.

What year was the M6? The E63 which was out from 2006-2010 is ugly as sin (typical Chris Bangle design), but the exhaust note from that 5.0 NA V10 is intoxicating and the thrust of that V10 above 4500 rpms is wicked. It sounds just like a Ferrari or Lambo V10. The F12 is a much better looking car and is quicker with the V8 turbo motor, but unfortunately the exhaust sounds manufactured as they pump exhaust noise into the cabin via the speakers. Pretty lame.

It was a 2014 and it was almost too fast, I could see myself getting into trouble with 560HP in a rear wheel drive vehicle. The B&O sound system was amazing as well, sounded amazing even with the top down. It was a very nice car but I may wait another year when my S is close to the warranty end date and swap it for the M6 or 650i then.
