So a dead COMAND unit can be repaired or changed out with a new unit? Good to know! Cue Captain Obvious.

this is a forum for S class W221s

but your issue is a dead GPS receiver - dead standard failure on a Mercedes (they are cheap crap with a good marketing team) buy a replacement on ebay for $15 and fit your self... just locate
somewhere under the dash or the parcel Shel (depending upon where it is in your car) it'll see through the screens and plastic just fine so long at u don't have the pink IR reflecting glass
you can buy an original one for around $100

I seem to have resolved it! Pressed nav then nav + 5 and got an internal nav menu. Not sure how, but heard the disk whirring and then everything was working!! Even showed how many satellites it could see - never done that before!!
