2010 S550 Air Conditioning Issue
Hi Folks,
My air conditioning would shut off occasionally, and only blow warm air. When this happens, the dash will show the yellow thermometer warning sign. This happens upon starting the engine or occasionally moving the car after about a few minutes. The temperature hovers a little over 80 or 90 degree when this happens. The car only has 35K miles, garage kept, rarely driven. Anybody has the same situation and has a solution? Appreciate the help.
Thanks,
John

Thanks for your reply, ItalianJoe. Before I take the car in, I just wanted to see if there is anything I can do before giving my money to the dealer stealer
It happened again this morning. As soon as the thermometer warning sign came on, I heard a very loud fan noise seemingly coming from the radiator fan, as though it went into high fan speed. I quickly opened the hood, the noise stopped, the fan left was still spinning but slowly coming down to eventually a halt. Given this clue, is there a particular area I need to narrow down the diagnostics? Could there be a faulty sensor somewhere? I'm going to hook up my Star diagnostics up this weekend to check it.

Yes, go into the fan controller and look at the actual values. See if the temp goes falsely high when it happens (doubtful as you say the gauge said 80-90), then it might be a temp sensor. If the commanded fan percentage is rising but the fan isn't coming on, replace the fan/controller. If the commanded follows the fan activity, then you need to troubleshoot the rest of the circuit, and see if the M/E or AAC is commanding the fan on for the wrong reason or sending bad data.
